Hi. Ive been having similar problems, for weeks now trying to burn this one movie project i made, using windows movie maker, of a wedding into a dvd movie.

My computer is a HP Pavillion notebook, running Windows XP SP2.

I created project with Windows Movie Maker, and burned it into a wmv as the only other option was to save it as an AVI file, which would have been way to huge.

Now Ive tried using NeroVision Express 2 and its related programs, Sonic MYDVD,TMPGE, and Blaze Media Pro. NONE of these programs are working.
The farthest Ive been able to do is to convert the original wmv format movie file into an mpeg2 using TMPGE 3.0 Express & DVD Author 1.6 to try to burn it into a DVD rom with menus, etc - but it does not play on my dvd burner, and does not display on my computer dvd player as a dvd, just created a volume 1 folder on my hardrive - which contains one video_TS & one Audio-TS folder. The audio folder is for some reason empty (and though one of the attempted burned dvds will play on my computer but without the dvd startpage, menu, dvd interactiveness - the audio is gone in its playback from dvdr),
and the video-TS folder contains 2 .BUP files (one prefix VIDEO_TS & other VTS-01-0, 2 IFO files, and 6 VOB files.

Why cant i just bring in my original wmv format,
OR the converted video using TMPGE which seperated it into two files - one a .m2v file and the other a .wav file.

Documentation and programs say i can simpply bring these two files into my dvd creation and burning software, create my desired menus, themes, background image menu,etc then select create dvd and it should work - should burn correctly into a dvd which is then interactivaly veiwable on a home dvd player, as well as computer dvd player.

Anyone know what is going wrong here? Why wont they burn correctly into dvd?
One of the errors ive received when trying the lame MyDVD software to burn either the wmv format or from the mpeg format to interactive DVD shows a red circle with white X in it and says "Could not complete the last command because: Invalid stream file type (DVDErr,-19931). Okay, I dont understand why or what that means and how to fix it? Why dont any of these programs just burn the formats simply and effectively like they claim to? Its been two weeks now Ive been tring to get this video to make to dvd, when it should have been just a couple friggin minutes.!

And when trying to burn using Nero from an wmv version of my video converted mpeg2, it too does not work. Here is an error log from one attempt at using Nero Vision Express and other Nero tools to burn my movie file into a dvd -

thats ok,

i dont know much about windows movie maker but how big is the AVI when you save it.I can get it to dvd if you have converted it to AVI.

if you have an AVI file run it though avicodec and then copy and paste the properties of the file and then we can get an idea where to steer you next

half way down the page there is another serial which you will also need to remove.

I notice your memory is quite low as well as the virtual memory.

CAN you provide all your pc stats?
include hardware/software/ram etc.

Hi. Thanks again, though I dont see what you are referring to this time.?
I just (as in at the same time i have been posting this thread, purchased tonight and have just installed an external harddrrive to backup my obviously full main harddrive files onto to free space.

Currently my main harddrive on notebook has only 2.28 GB free and 71GB full on an 80GB drive. I had more space, about 8-14 GB free when tring to burn these projects.
I just looked at the error log i had included, and it looks like it is not showing the unsuccessful burn attempts? May be the wrong log, but it looks like the others werent saved? Bugger!

My hardrive is formatted to NTSF.
Im using a brand new as of about a week ago CD/DVD R/RW 16X Double Layer burner by Memorex.
My connection is usb (1.0 I think rather then 2.0 as my notebook computer is about two years old now - HP Pavilion ZE5500. I also have a firewire port on computer but it is much smaller then the firewire connection and cable which came with the Memorex DVD burner, so cant connect via that. Wish I could as its likely much faster.? I havent been able to confirm, but people have told me that the usb port on this notebook computer is likely only usb1.? Cant find where the specs specify in my manual or at hps website, which they dont even have info on this model now.
Any other information needed?

I just saw your other posting about the AVI file.
No, I did not end up saving the whole project movie into an AVI file, as i could not as it would have been too large, and i did not have enough space on my hard drive to do. Plus it would have taken a day and night or longer probably, the way it was going when i tried to at one point save it as an AVI from a much smaller portion of the whole movie file.
So what i did was saved the movie i created in windows movie maker as a .wmv format file which is playable using windows media player and such on the computer. But the whole point of creating the movie is to burn it into a movie on dvd with interactive menu like regular dvd movie.

I tried burning the wmv movie file into dvd using MyDVD as it says it can convert and burn wmv files into dvd compliant format. But it doesnt work - that was that red circle white X error i mentioned in the long posting near the top.
So then i also converted using TMPGE the wmv file into an mpeg(2 i believe) file, and tried burnging that into dvd movie to no avail. Would sometimes show the file when choosing file in select file menu but when i selecteed the mpeg file it would either show a progress or transcoding bar or nothing, then the file would just not appear in area in programs where it should after being selected to burn. Or it would show but then not be accepted as valid file type.

Then the Blaze Media Pro program i tried to use created the two files msv and wav from the original mpeg file.

Why dont these software developers create a unified format of creating dvd authoring process which is straightforward and simpple and effective? It all seems so nearly random, complicated, confusing and problematic.

this is a problem Unless you free up more space you wont get very far.Recommendations for burning dvds require at least 6 to 15 gig free on any one partition of your hard drive to be able to complete the backup of your project.

o and where you deleted that 2nd serial number there is a 3rd one above it as well which you should take out as well

I tried again over the night, thinking maybe the frame rate of converted video was off, so tried again using tmpge convertor i converted video to mpg2 with frame rate of 29.97fps.
THe video plays fine on my computer, but when i try to load it into NeroVision Express 2 to create menu, themes, etc to then burn into a dvd movie, though it shows the file when browsing for supported file types in the browse window of Nero, when i select this file it takes about ten or more seconds then the browse window disappears / closes but the mpg file does not show up in the project area. Its like it recognizes the file enough to show it as a supported file type, but wont actually accept it into the program to use, edit and or burn to dvd.

Im soooo confused!? What is wrong with these programs?
How can i work around this nonsense?

windows movie maker is a crappy piece of crap. I did the same as you had to use stoik converter then intervideo windvd creator and luckily it took. Nero sometimes recognizes and sometimes not, files it says is supported. These proggys are finicky to what program created the file. Just keep trying after reboot,virus off,ect then never use windows movie maker again. Good luck

Thanks all. I finally got this wedding movie made onto dvd last night. Yeah!
I freed up alot more space on my harddrive. Resaved my captured dvavi footage and saved it to my harddrive as an AVI file. Then from there remade it using Nero onto a dvd. It worked this time. Converting it using many other programs (including the often touted TMPGE programs - which i will not be paying for after my trial use runs out because of this) to mpeg2 did not work, contrary to their claims they make of effectively converting wmv and AVI files into mpeg2 for burning to dvd movies.

So it worked, and the dvd looks pretty decent, aside from occasional frames playing a little jaggedly. Skipping a little.

Yes, the intensely proprietary, narrow saving options in Windows Movie Maker is ridiculous and not very user considerate.

And yes andmerr - I am interested in other movie maker programs, provided they effectively save directly from digital video camera to dvd movie compatible mpeg2 files ( and are not full of buggy, virus glitches. Thanks.
