Those Maxell-002-000 (made in japan, from Hitachi) are good. Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/258011 -- I've scanned and tested with Nero CD-DVD Speed, and the results are pretty good. It's in the same class as the famous Yuden.
All you need is genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (m.i.j) and you'll be alright. You can't go wrong with them, especially if you burned them at 4X speed and set your "custom" to 4360MB or 4400MB at the max.
*NOTE:just make sure your burner's firmware is up to date, then you'll be all square away.

maxell-002-00: Excellent hitachi media!
These will be on the japanese maxell +8x: Regular and full hub printables.
Btw: The taiwese +8x maxells are Ritek-r03 and are very good as well!
When those spindles are all mixed together/for the same price: Get the Japanese hitachis over the riteks!

Do you have Nero by chance? If you do, then it should be under "Nero Toolkit,"just click on "Nero CD-DVD Speed" and find out how who's the manufacture is, test/scan your media for "quality and PI failures."

Hummm... I'm not quite sure what system parameter is because it never happened to me before -- hopefully, someone will know what it means. I'm at work right now, but I'll try to remember and see what I can do for you alright.
((To scan/run a test on your backup media))
- insert your backup into dvd burner or dvd-rom (burner is the best)
- click on Nero StartSmart
- click on Nero Toolkit
- click on Nero CD-DVD Speed (wait for CD-DVD Speed to load info from your backup disc)
- click on "Disc Quality" (next to Benchmark, Disc Info and ScanDisc)
- click on 4X if you burned it using 4X or 8X if your burned with 8X (under Settings)
- click on "Start" (on top next to your burner and Exit)
- now Nero CD-DVD Speed will starts and it will scans your backup disc.

thanks Alkohol and Saugmon
My version of Nero CD-DVD Speed does not have the tabs that show on your version. (Bench Mark, Disc Info etc...)
I can only get to Disc Quality by going to the menu tool bar and clicking on extra and then choosing Disc Quality.
When I run it, I get that same screen as you are showing. But about a minute in to the test performing, I get that error message. Not sure what is going on.
BTW - who is that lovely lady you have in your signature block!!!

Got 4 of the 25 pack each of the DVD-/+R. Both were Hitachi made in Japan. Can't hardly go wrong for around 20 cents a piece. Shoot I went to Office Depot at 2:30 or 3:00 in the afternoon and they still had quite a few left. I was very surprised to find any.
