My PS2 cant read my HDLoader. PS2 searches for hdloader but cant find it. Its a retail version. The PS2 can read SwapMagic and the backed up games as well as the original games. Why cant the PS2 read the HDLoader?

It's probably not the best copy that was stamped out that day. Try different methods to get your PS2 to read the CD.

When you are trying these methods, turn off any music or TV so you can hear what your PS2 is doing. Put a working CD in your PS2 an listen to the sound that it makes when it picks up the CD. The drive will spin up and make a high pitched sound when it starts to load.

It's easier to tell if your PS2 pics up a CD if you are in the browser so go there before you start.

Put the CD in and listen to it spin up up to three times. Press eject twice so that the PS2 will kick out the CD and then take it back in quickly and repeat the process.

Try this again with your PS2 standing up. My PS2 will not read any CDs or DVDs unless it is standing up because it is a PS2 NAZI. You could also have a PS2 NAZI...

If this doesn't help you, you should search for how to clean your laser. It's really easy to do and a fun project at that. And if that doesn't help, you should try to return your HDLoader because it it probably defective.

Be careful while opening your PS2. You might end up snapping a ribbon cable

Practice makes a man perfect but at the same time no on is perfect so why Practice????

I had replaced the original PS2 cover with the fliptop version about 6 or 7 months ago. All was working fine even the HDLoader. Recently I tried to play a game I have saved in my HDD but HDLoader wouldnt load. I placed a retail game and all was fine. I placed swapmagic to play a backed up game and all was fine too. The backed up game played great.
I have 2 HDLoaders (one for each PS2 system I own) and neither worked on that PS2 but both Hdloaders worked on that second PS2 system.
Could it be a laser problem? I cant imagine what else it could be. But why can the laser read everything but the HDLs? Meantime i will try standing the PS2 up on its side.

The retail HDLoader is a CD and no a DVD. CDs and DVD use different laser wavelenghts when reading the media. The higher wave lenght used for DVD is probably able to pass through any obstruction that may be on your laser. When your laser tried to read a CD though, particles that have collected on the laser may be large enough to effect readability.

Since you have a fliptop on that playstation, it is more prone to collect stuff on your laser, so i wouldn't put it past me that you just need to clean it. It's great that you do have a fliptop because the laser should be really easy to access.
