When I select the write speed to be at 4x, how come it still burns the game at around 2x?

your burner is only capable of burning at 2x.

Either what SHKRMKR said, or maybe you just need to update the firmware on your burner to enable the proper burning capabilities..what kind of burner to you have..whatever it is, try getting the latest manufacturer's firmware...I had the same problem as you..my burner would'nt burnt at 8x speed, updated firmware and now works like a charm

I have a Sony DRU-800A, so it's capable of burning faster than 2x. I also already updated the firmware to KY05.
