ripping DVD movie highlights to MPG files

I need help.

I want to rip selective scenes from DVD movies to my hard drive and keep them there in the highest possible quality. I would like the ability to edit these scenes if necessary at a later date or burn a DVD of some of them if I need to.

I have played with DVD Decrypter, DVD2AVI, and actually gotten commercial DVDs loaded into Adobe Premiere. I tried saving as AVI and MPG and you can tell the image has lost some quality in both formats. Also I can't seem to get rid of intermittent horizontal gray lines that come and go in the picture.

What would be the best format to collect DVD movie clips on a hard drive for quality and possible later editing & burning?

I'm not too concerned about hard drive space as these will be clips, not full movies.

If my result is an MPEG-2 file with the highest bitrate, will the video quality match what I started with on DVD? What about AVI?

How can I preserve all the Dolby Digital channels?

Will I lose quality every time I load a clip and save it to MPEG-2?

I've tried using adobe premiere and i didn't like it...for one it takes too long secondly the quality isn't that good, 3rd its too hard to learn. the software you have dvd2avi and dvd decrypter are good. Just follow the guideline given in this site. The picture quality and the sounds are awesome.
