First I would check and see if DMA is on.
Check your DMA settings - How ? do this -> Go to Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers> Right Click Primary IDE channel (and Secondary IDE channel after you finish with Primary)> Properties> Advanced Settings Tab> Transfer Mode or go here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616
Do the above from both "Primary & Secondary IDE channels".
I (We) and you need to look at whats in both "Transfer Mode" and "Current Transfer Mode". Screen shot below is what I'm talking about.
If it is in "PIO" mode. Click the "Driver" tab, and uninstall the driver. Then reboot. Upon rebooting windows will automatically reinstall the driver and it should go back to "DMA" mode.
(Your screen may or may not look the same as my screen shots)
Second, are you using "Deep Analysis" and/or "AEC" functions of DVD Shrink?

I have checked my DMA setting. For Primary device0 is Ultra Dma Mode 5. Device 1 is Ultra DMA Mode 4.
For Secondary IDE is Device 0 & Device 1 is Multi-Word DMA Mode2
Should it be this Win XP

Are you using the "Deep Analysis" and/or "AEC" functions of DVD Shrink? If so, they will increase the total time considerably.
Have you tried to uninstall the driver for your "Secondary IDE Channel"?

Typically 30-40 minutes is about right. It all depends on a few variables. Compression, speed of PC etc. I also noticed that you are using Fat32 as your file system, this may affect your speed. Another option in DVD Shrink you can try is the enable I/O overlap option under the I/O tab in preferences. This option have produced mixed results for some users, so proceed as warned.

The speed of your system may be improved with the addition of RAM as well. I noted that my LG burner takes up to 512mb just to run the burner.
I wonder how much resource yours takes during the rip and burn?
This could be part of the issue.
Just a thought.

I am running my computer with 512 memory and the CPU is 850ghz
with fat 32 does that sound like a fairly good speed to encode.

Do you say that because you've done it before or just from other people's times?
Quote: the CPU is 850ghz
Most people getting 40 min. encoding times have 2000+ Mhz processors. So the times you listed seem within reason in my opinion with your 850 Mhz CPU. I've seen better out of the same, but it all depends on the setup. Shrink uses 100% of the processor. So in general, the less processor speed available to do the job, then the longer it will take.

vicenton - They may say they are in "DMA if available" but, what does the "Current Transfer Mode" box say?
