Hey,

I modded my PS2 in April 2004. Suddenly, this week it stopped booting PS2 games. Strangely, I can still boot PS1 games (by powering it up holding the Eject button). Anyone ever have a similar problem?

The PS2 boots normally, and then I get the Red Screen of Rejection ("Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disk.") I have tried powering down the PS2 via the switch on the back, assuming the chip might have been stuck in PS1 mode but nothing worked.

I'm about ready to crack it open to see if there's a problem with some connections, but I can't imagine that it worked for a year and a half and suddenly developed a bad connection. I'm guessing that my chip might have fried its PS2 functions.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the reply.

I didn't mention that it fails to boot backups of PS2 games, but has no problem booting my original PS2 games or PS1 backups. Recently I was trying to load the PS2Reality Player which is on CD and used to work fine and I got the red screen. Does that make a difference, not booting a CD as opposed to a DVD?

Would this still be a dirty laser? If it still plays original disks and video DVDs, what else might this be?

it's not the laser... open it up and take a look at the wires on the mod, one of them could have come loose.

I thought it might be that...

Thanks, I'll check it out.
