First of all, hello to all. My first post on this forum...
Now regarding the subject, I have read up on the information about panasonics VRO format used on DVD-RAM discs to quite some detail. I've been using a DMR-E20, and have recently transitioned to the new DMR-EH60D at work, and have occasionally come across the need to edit certain material on the PC. I currently have several .VRO files backed up onto the PC from when I was going through the transition, unfortunately I didn't copy the IFO & BUP (I think) files across with them, meaning I couldn't then put them back onto DVD-RAM for re-use with either DVD recorder.
The PC is kitted out with an Matrox RTX100, which means if I can get the files to play ok, i can just record the programmes via the composite output.
The thing is, the files have a couple of chapters within them, and I beleive they also use differing bitrates (within a single VRO file). This meant, on playback, the output would become corrupt at certain points in the file. (I assume when bitrates fall out of tolerance levels for the codec, as it doesn't happen at the chapter points)
I scoured around for software that supported this format, and came across quite a few with some success, like vobtool, which extracted up to 38 segments of the VRO (although there were only 2 actual recordings within the file). I've tried eternally to convert these files, without success.
So, I decided to put the files onto a firewire drive and take them home to see what I could do there. When I tried to play the files in Media player classic (and powerDVD), and they played perfectly (it just filled a single frame in black at the point where it went wrong before)! So I loaded the files into VDubmod and upon scrolling across to the point where there were errors, they cropped up again. I then tried to match the settings on my work PC to see if I could play them as I did at home, thus being able to record it, but no joy.
So, as you might see, I've come close, but I'm also coming close to the end of my tether. Help me out here if you can, this has tortured me for a long time now, and I'm desperate to get these video files to my colleague! Any help will be received with many thanks and a releived man :)
And what?
