I am working with a certain AVI file right now. Here are the basic specs of the video.

Resolution: 640 x 272
Framerate: 25 FPS

I would like to change the resolution to either 720x480 or 352x240 (these are both dvd comliant right?) without changing the original aspect ratio. I don't want to convert it to a DVD-compliant MPEG video yet. I want to keep it an AVI file for the time being. I just want to change the resolution without a noticable amount of wuality loss (none if possible). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I've always been told that you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. But who in the hell wants flies?

For 0% quality loss you would need to use a lossless codec which would mean very large file sizes. Better would be to frameserve to the encoder when you are ready to encode.

Your source is 2.35:1, with 352x240 DVD specs only allow for 4:3 I think, you can still keep it 2.35:1, jut that it won't be anamorphic.

The other issue is that you have a PAL source and you have given NTSC output resolutions.

I know that I have a PAL source. I should have mentioned that. That doens't bother me because I'm going to use DGPulldown as instructed by another member (after I get the video in M2V and AC3 files). I would like the video to be anamorphic. That's why I was to resize the video but keeping the original aspect ratio intact. Could you give detailed instructions on how to do what you were talking about frameserving to the encoder? Thanks for your help.

Try FitCD, it will calculate the AR, etc. for you and give you an AVISynth script for frameserving.
