when i got my ps2 modded a year ago it worked fine i was able to play all my back ups untill all of a sudden if would boot to Playstation 2 screen then cut back to red mist or memory card screen. I dont know if its the fact that i use cheap (GQ DVD-R) media and that i label them. I also read that the wires can burn out? please help.

They can sometimes, if thet were not good quality, or one of the wires could have come of the motherboard, open up your ps2 and check to see if any wires are broken off.

the use of inferior media causes you laser to work harder (more drive current applied to the anode) and this can cause your laser to 'burn out'. this could be the problem, or your laser may simply need cleaned especially if you/anyone smokes (not just cigs either)in the home. booting the the PS2 splash screen means the chip is working, it's bypassing the authentication check and giving a true to the processor, with it not going further then that your just not getting a good reading which can be one of the above listed problems.

and what do you mean by you label them? the only labeling that will cause problems is if you change the SLUS file which is the 'label' of the disk.

Well i am going to buy some Sony DVD-R s and see if that works.
When i say label i mean that I printed out some labels (stickers like the CD stomper) and put them on the disc.

those labels do not have any effect on the disks.

as for the Sony media that is one of the lesser quality and you'll run into problems with them more then likely. use a quality media such as the Verbatim or Ritek (if you can get GO4s, not GO5s)
