Newbie....Backing up on Dual Layer

Hey y'all

I've been trying to back up a couple of large games on dual layer. I have been using the memerex dual layer disks that everyone is saying to avoid. My question is that i am going out to purchase new dual layers and would like to know if there is anything else I need to know.
I'm using alcohol 120% to burn and making iso's with qwix. Can someone tell me if these are ok or do i need different programs as well.
