This drive will copy a movie ripped in Shrink and copy ok, until it goes into verify but will then stall at 60%.
Have tried on a few other movies, but will do the same thing.
Have removed all antivirus programs, no help.
Any help on this?

Hello creager.

What media are you using? Download DVD Identifier from the site in my signature and report back the media code.

I'm not familiar with firmware 1.04 for the NEC 3520. It must be the original older firmware. Upgraded firmware can be found at the sites below:

Are you using Shrink for your burning? Are you using the Nero burning ROM?

NEC, in the past, has been extremely strict on its support for Ritek media. What this means is that one has to be somewhat careful in using the Ritek media with NEC burners--no overburning. Since you have the original firmware 1.04, there may not be specific write strategies for the G05 media in the 1.04 firmware. I would suggest flashing to the newest version available which I think is 3.06. I would gather the warranty is close to being up on the burner and there is no warranty problem as long as the burner name is unchanged and the flash works. :) I used to worry about this when burners cost $200 but at $40 I don't care much anymore. I've flashed 5 different burners multiple times without incident. That doesn't mean something won't go wrong with yours however, although it's not likely. :) If you want to burn DL media, you'll definitely have to upgrade your firmware for best results.

Also I forgot to ask about your burn speed. It should be at 4X even if the burner's firmware allows for faster burns for the media. The 4X speed increases the likelihood of a better quality burn.

You could just use other media and see if the problem persists. If not, then you know the problem is likely with your burner's firmware and the G05 media.

I am not familiar with Cyberlink as I only use DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn for burning.

laddyboy,

No, I am not concerned about the warranty, have no idea what else may go wrong. However you may be right, will go with the flash of the burner and give a report.
Trying to burn at 8X, but not going to fool anymore, just flash it.

Have tried DVD Decrypter several times, but can't get it to reconize my dvd drive.

laddyboy,

I flashed it, the computer did not explode, the new drive name ---
nec DVD-RW nd - 3520AW 3.06.
It really did not help, still hangs at 60% on verify.
Let it hang there a while and got no better, so aborted, took the disc out and tried to play it, went through all chapters and it seemed fine.
