Time taken by TMPGEnc to transpose AVI variance

Hello all.
I'm finding that when I convert DivX to mpg using TMPGEnc, It sometimes will take 3.5 hours per disc and another time it wil take 18 hours. I THINK I'm using the same settings - Is this the fault of the DivX file?

click setting. click the advanced tab and select source range. then double click source range and click move to start frame and click set start frame then click move to end frame and click set end frame!! now try and encode!!

Going to Divx then to MPEG Does this result in further compresion.. If so how much?
And does the picture degrade?

the picture does degrade and usually, mpeg is much bigger than divx!
