Hello...My main criteria is to get reliable playback free of any stutter problems. Deep analysis takes quite a while on my pc (P4 2ghz) if I use this will it help me to make a more reliable copy or does it just try and keep quality nearer dvd quality and less like tv quality? Thanks

"Deep Analysis" does two important things.

1. It verifies that the output file size will NOT exceed the standard 4.37Gb limitation you have with a standard single layer DVD-R.

2. It improves the output quality of the backup. What it does is analyzes each individual scene of the DVD, and decides how to allocate the bitrate (compress some scenes more than others.) so that the overall output quality will be better since DVD Shrink can apply the compression more accurately. (by no means am I implying that if you do the "DA", you wont have those artifacts or pixelation! I do a "DA" on every one of my backups.)

When using the "DA" feature, your backups will take considerably longer than before if you weren't using "DA". (Usually around 35 min up to an hour depending on the amount of compression that is going to be used.)

NOTE: If the "Deep Analysis" button or option is grayed out (meaning it won't let you select it). It means 1 of 2 things. Either "DA" has already been done for this particular DVD or there would be no compression needed to shrink this movie down to 4.37Gb .

i'm sorry to disagree here, jmet but no it does NOT improve the quality even half as much as it is said

AEC makes a difference, DA does NOT and thus i must say it is not worth the additional time it takes

in combination WITH aec it can be considered an improvement, but that will take way more time than average joe is willing to spend on his transcodings

Agree 100% which is why I also posted a link about the AEC functions of DVD Shrink.

It really depends on what you are using. I have a 19in and even w/o DA or AEC I won't notice a diff. But on anything higher that 32in you'll notice if you skip any of the quality steps.
