My problem is I can only burn at minimum speed of 6x speed. How can I burn at lower speeds. Any speed that I burn at higher I get errors and stuttering. I tired alcohol 120 version 1.95,Nero Version 7 and Dvd Decryptor. They all only let me burn at 6x speed.

If I use ritek media it burns at low 1x and 2x speeds,So why is Sony so high with its burning speeds? Please tell me theres some hack or registry edit I can do to burn at low speeds. Please help me. I have all these discs and have nonthing to do with them:(

I am using SOHW-1693S DVD burner. Disc ID SONY-D11-00

i've posted to a few afterdawn threads with this same problem but can't find any links...looking... here's one at cdfreaks for now -

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=154104

basically the 1693S is lacking in flexibility in it's burn speeds ie the firmware is inadequate. i had 2 of these drives and they were both faulty luckily, as i also got annoyed by the lack of burn speeds.

here's another - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/255388

still haven't found my other details posts re this problem however i'll sum it up here...unless there's any newer firmware been released since the other links above, you'll find you'll need to stick to 6x as that burner has been afflicted with inflexible firmware ie crap choices in burn speeds. there is a way around it but it's not something to do lightly, ie tweak the burn speeds for specific media types, using a program called omnipatcher. i did do this when i had my 1693S's for a while. ominpatcher has been around a long time and they guys that write it/support it really know their stuff, that'll be your best bet as lite-on have let the side down with the firmware on these drives

Creaky^^ Thank you for replying.I did what you said and downloaded omnipatcher and updated my firmware with umscrambled version. My media now can burn at lower speeds, but not my ps2 wont recgonize the discs!

All I do is burn the image with dvd decryptor or alcohol(I tried both)then after disc is done ,pop them into my ps2 and it keeps saying not a valid ps2 image. My other burnt games work fine when I use burn the regular way. Now when I force the media to burn at 2.4x speed I get unsucessful backups!

I dont understand it.All I did was click on the media I was using and tick burn at 2.4x speeds. But every burn i made was unsucessful.:(

Man why wont this program let me make sucessful backs using lower speeds. Im doing everything right. I guess this program(omnipatcher) doesent work for ps2 images.

Creaky you had any sucess burning ps2 games with omnipatcher? Or has anyone had sucess burning ps2 games with omnipatcher? Please tell me if you had sucess.

Try booktyping your DVD+R media to dvd-rom useing the liteon booktype utility. Here is a link and there is also a link to a usage guide on the page http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441 If that doesn't work try reseting the eeprom with the eeprom utility. Read the instructions carefully before eeprom reset and do so at your own risk. The chances of any damage to your drive are very slim but I've got to cover my butt. There's no worries with the booktype utility.
