I am interested in copying segments of a movie on to a DVD. I want to make a DVD that has several scenes from different movies to use in a course, instead of having to carry all the DVD's with me when I present. Is that possible? If so, how is it done?

I'd like to do the same thing, but I don't have $1000 for Final Cut nor would I spend it on that if I did. Can this be accomplished through either iMovie or Premiere 6 (in Classic)?

I found out that even with Final Cut Pro. It is a tedious process to break the security protection first, then find the scenes, then place them, etc etc. For $1000 bucks I'll hire a professional! Do you think the new Final Cut Express can do the same thing as the $1000 version?

Hi ddjockey.

I am not sure what you're asking. If you are asking if it's possible to copy segments of multiple DVDs onto a DVD-R, I'd say yes, even though I have not tried it myself. I don't see why you should not be able to do this using OSEx.

However, if you are asking about being able to rip multiple segments from multiple DVDs and then edit them before burning to a single DVD, then this question is for someone more experienced than I am.

However, here's some information for you. Final Cut Pro 3 (I think it's 3) is the newest version of Final Cut Pro from Apple, and it is being released in April 2003. I read on a website that the previous version is selling for $499. Perhaps, if you do not need all the bells and whistles of the new version, the older version may be a more economical solution for you.

Final Cut Express is a stripped down version of Final Cut Pro, with all of the main features available, but not all of the features of the pro edition. It sells for $299.

Sure, it should work for you. However, for $200 more dollars, you can get the full version, even though it will not be the most recent.

I hope this information helps you.

Take care.
