Guys Im planning on buying a used Ps2 from GAmestop or something, but Im stuck on which one to go for. Which will be the best choice for modding/playing back-ups on?

It is better to get the Older PS2 since I've heard that Slim version's Lasers burn out or Slim overheats.

But my Gamestop has only Slim Version [and not the Old PS2]. Is there anyway to rememdy this problem [by fixing the lasers or how to avoid overheat problems etc]?

I know for a fact that any PS2 version up to v12 works with Swap Magic. As for hard drive, I believe that any version from v4 and up works. But as for v12, you need to have an external USB HD in order to play backup games on the HD.

For V12, even with the laser fix [assuming that I'm using Swap Magic only], is there going to be any overheating problems?

i have a V7 and it works just fine with Swap Magic
and my flip top.
Yes, there will be overheating issues with just about any
V12 from what i have heard. I know there can be with mine,
but i have a chip in mine also. The laser fix has nothing to do with the heat issues, it is for laser voltage spikes which can help prevent your laser from burning out. pretty much a must for a V12, more so if you get a chip. With a slim
Put a small house fan in front of it so it gets real good airflow,
and stand it vertically and it will help out a bunch or completely solve the problem.

Thanks for the information. I was thinking of getting a laser fix [with soldering of course] without modchip [just using Swap Magic] but which laser fix? Tried doing research on Summone Fix [since you got your V12 with that fix], but can't find it =/ [different language]. However I've found other laser fix, hopefully a decent replacement of Summone fix. Found the Neo Fix and Diode Fix. Which one should I go for? [Or does it really matter?]

Sommone or Comsoft V4 are the two i have heard the most about
and are used by a lot of companies that sell premodded systems.

http://www.norcalmods.com/view_product.php?product=COMSOFTV4

i could not find anyone selling the SummOne laser fix i have.
My system was premodded and came with it.
I do not know anything about those online stores but if you search on google for Comsoft V4 you will find plenty

The Older Version is a must. The graphic cards on the older models are much better than the Slim, and the fan is more efficient too. That?s why the lens burns out quicker on the slim. I had to learn the hard way.
