I've got my wonderful video capture software (not so wonderful Sonic MyDVD). How the hell do you capture video and encode it using XVID? The capture software only uses mpeg "DVD quality", with a huge file size. I know there is a way to encode it, and I know I'm a chick, but damn I feel my hair color right now. I had a video capture card several years ago that let you select the codec to use, but this does not. I have the latest Xvid and Divx codecs already installed but cannot seem to create the videos using the codec, but can only view other files downloaded them. Seriously, I feel retarded so any help will you guys are willing to offer will count as your good deed for the day!

Well it saves as .mpg

I tried to use DOS and use the "Type" command to see exactly what codec it was using (if any) and it was more gibberish than normal to find the codec. Meaning, I hit enter at least 100 times and still xound not see any valid codec string.

Maybe I'm more retarded than I thought. How do you know if it is mpeg1 or mpeg2?

"DVD quality" suggests full DVD res MPEG-2 @ say 9Mb/s.
If the software you are using only lets you capture to mpg, then you would need to switch to a different app (say VirtualDub) that lets you choose the codec and container. If you have the latest XviD then you could try the Real-time quality preset.
