Hello
I have a NEC ND 6500A drive ..i can successfull burn discs on a slower blank disc 1-2x - rw...but when i just purchased the memorex DVD+R 16x nothing happens...The disc is in everything is fine but it just cant find the disc in the drive...if i take out the +R disc and put in the older blank disc. IT burns it just fine. What is this all about.

Sounds to me like you need to have a firmware upgrade. The latest firmware for your drive is http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

Check your current version against the link above and upgrade if necessary.

Thanks for the help so far..I appreciate it..I do think that is what I need and I tried it earlier today. But when I went and tried that this is what i found:

NEC ND-6500A
NEC ND-6500A - 2.24 (for drives with 2.x firmware) / 4.24 (for drives with 4.x firmware) / 203D (for Dell OEM drives)

I followed the link and opened it with WinRAR..i saved in c drive and opend and i get an error saying cant find drive....is this the right link though..i do have 16x discs and this the only think i could find on the Firmware page..anything more you can add is appreciated...and yes im a newbie :)

i have this same drive on my laptop, i bought it AFTER-MARKET to replace my older Sony slimdrive that was only 4x capable~ :)

but, make sure you update to version 2.24 or 4.24 (depending on if you received this drive OEM or you bought it after-like i did-) there are quite a few "better" firmwares for this that really utilizes the capabilities of it~ :)

i would suggest the OFFICIAL firmware for it from NEC, but, IF you are the "experimenting" type, i have already flashed a modified firmware on it to ALLOW me to bitset (booktype DVD+R format to dvd-rom AND change the default of DVD+R DL-DVD+R DL to dvd-rom) for highest compatibility on stand alones) :)

Ok i got it..i really wasnt sure which one to get but i did..i just need my drive to burn 16x DVD+R discs...this is gonna do it for me. i downloaded the 224bitset under modified 6500A.....i dont have a DL drive should i consider something else before flashing it or what?
