Just made backups of Sly 2 and 3, and they worked when I tested them, but now they don't. It's not the Swap Magic, it works on my other games, and I know the burn went okay because I successfully tested them and actually played a few levels. When I hit 'x' to start from the Swap Magic, the disk spins up, slows down, then perpetually tries to load. A couple times, the initial white text with the... *cough* er... copyright notices and the whoosh sound will show up, but then it freezes, either during or right after the sound effect. I read something here just a few minutes ago about having to swap a different game to refresh the TOC, but I can't find it now, and have searched these forums for twenty minutes trying to find someone with this problem. Starting a new game worked once, but not anymore. What am I doing wrong?

(Ripped in linux with just a simple 'dd' command and burned in k3b at 2X and verified to be binary equal. Has worked for 20+ of my games.)

Er.. by 'starting a new game' I mean using the Swap Magic to play 'Minna Daisuki Katamari', letting it load a level, and then trying to play the Sly backups. Also, the Swap Magic loads the originals fine.

EDIT: D'oh. Missed the edit button. Oh, well.

www.swapmagicfix.com has a list of games that need to be TOC Refreshed, but neither Sly game is listed there. Have you tried rebuilding the game?

That's what I was thinking, but the games worked fine for a couple loads, and other people have apparently gotten them working no sweat. And this says I don't need to: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/176791

EDIT: IIRC, the bigger image was only 3.3GB, too.

Sometimes people have different problems, like I had to rebuild all of my games for my V7 until I started using Taiyo Yuden discs. Now I don't have to rebuild anything unless the size is greater than 4.37gb.

It wouldn't hurt to try rebuilding them.

Guess not. I'll reboot into Windows after lunch, and see if that works.

1) I've never heard of Taiyo Yuden.
2) I have one of those v12 slim PS2's with the switches, if it makes a difference.

This place usually has some good deals on Taiyo Yuden: www.supermediastore.com

Just rebuilt Sly 3, same thing happens. I somehow got lucky once and it seems that when it 'freezes' its really just loading... *really* slowly, like three minutes to get to the opening movies thing. I'll try ordering some of those Taiyo disks. It may just be the brand, some HP DVD+R's that were on super sale (50 for $8, sweet, and only one coaster out of the ~40 I've used, except for the five I've spent on this problem). Would using some -R's make a difference? I'll buy a couple of different brand/type disks on my way to class this evening and see.
