I see that there is a hard drive you can buy that will work with the PSTwo. The prices don't seem to hefty to me but I already have a 250GB external Hard drive. Is there a way to plug my drive into the PSTwo with USB and effectively play my games?

If not, what does the PS2 external drive have that a regular external drive doesn't?

Does it play games well?

Depends, do you want to play games that require a hd (like ff11) or do you want to put ps2 games on the hd and play them from there. If you want to do the second option, your hd will work, and you need usbextreme.

Confused. I don't want the HD to play FFXI. I have a 250GB Maxtor external hard drive. Can I plug this drive into the PSTwo and play games off of my hard drive using the USB Extreme discs?

I mean, if it is possible, will games be played effectively if the PS2's USB port is not USB2?

For the external hard drives that include the USB Extreme discs, do these drives have something special within them to make it work with the PSTwo that ordinary external drives don't have?

The only thing special about them is that they are overpriced. Your drive will work, you just need the usbextreme program.

yep, thats a draw back. Why not buy the swap magic discs and a magic key or slim tool? Then you can play burnt games, plus just use a burnt copy of usbextreme (and it will cost about the same).

I have the swap magic and magic switches. The problem is that it doesn't always work. I have problems with tool C not holding down the switch. I have tape holding down switches, tool B popping out every once in awhile. I have to move the switches everytime I decide to play so games. So if the USB Extreme discs are cheap and it works great, then I wouldn't mind spending a few more dollars for better compatibility and ease of use. I guess it really doesn't work that well though.
