Hi

Currently I use dvd decryptor and shrink to rip movies and most the time it's fine, it's straight forward and the quality is mostly good. However, when it comes to action films with lots of special effects of 2 hours + the quality of the film can be poor as it's on around 65% compression. I just rip the movie and do the deep analysis thing which helps

Is there any better ripping/burning software out there which will produce better quality dvd play back. I'd like something that is straight forward to do and don't fancy doing loads of conversion to avi etc

Thanks

apparently DVD rebuilder and CCE are the best method for compressing dvd's as far as everyone says they create the highest possible quality backups of dvds

xilisoft dvd ripper works well for me, and the quality is good, but the avi/mpg files converted is a little bit worse than DVD quality. Guide: http://www.dvd-tool.com/dvd-rip-software/dvd-rip-software-guide.html
I think the quality lost a little usually after dvd's ripping to other format.

If the poorer quality is related to compression, you may reauthor the movie (e.g. do away with the unwanted parts, compress less for main movie) with e.g. Shrink. Or you could always burn to 2 dvds instead of one.

Thanks for info. I do reauthor them most of the time and just do the movie but some new films are still on75-80% compression. Hmmm didn't think about burning onto 2 discs, is that possible within shrink or dvd decryptor?

I always get good quality with 20-30% compression. Maybe I'm just lucky! *_*

Some programs (e.g. Apollo DVD Copy) allow you to burn a DVD-9 to 2 dvd-5s with ease.

You can of course split the movie into two halfs by using the reauthor function of Shrink.
