I'm trying to compress a DVD so I can copy it, which I have done numerous times with DVDShrink. I loaded the DVD up, and did a deep analysis. It ended up being 58%, and it's still not shrunk enough. Theres still some red in the bar, and it won't let me burn it (obviously). Heres the problem - there isn't anything I can get rid of.. there is only one audio track, and the 1 extra is 1gig compressed, but it's also part of the movie.

Am I pretty much out of luck, and need to get some dual layer dvds to burn this? Here is a screen shot of the DVDShrink window with the DVD loaded.. maybe I did something wrong :/

Thanks everyone.

only thing I can suggest is shrink it to a dir on your Hard Drive 1st then reshrink it...

So shrink it to the HD then open shrink again open the files from the hard drive and shrink them just enough so it fits...

or you can see if it will shrink enough using Nero Recode2 or CloneDvd2

5 hours and 32 seconds for the main movie? There must be 2 or 3 movies in there. You may need a double layer disc for this one, unless you decide to delete something.

It's an event, that's why its so long.

This sucks, I just bought a pack of 100 dvd-rs and have a bunch of long events like this.. DL DVD-rs are expensive :(

Most likely it's because there are multiple angles on the disc (are there?)

You could use the Reauthor mode and eliminate some of the other angles, but then you're left with no menu (hopefully you don't mind this). Make sure you get rid of all unwanted audio (DTS audio only works if you have a DTS decoder in your receiver).

Shrinking it twice will leave you with some pretty bad video quality.

You might want to try backing up only the main movie in reauthor mode. Get rid of all the extras in the movie. Like menus, extras, and that crap. Other then that, I see no other way of doing it. I have tried to do what some people tell you to do like shrinking to your hard drive and then re-shrinking it, it works but you will loose some picture quality. It wont look as good as when you shrink it once but it should work just fine. Just my thoughts.

As tmfloria stated, you can shrink the file again. First time select somewhere on your HD to shrink it. It will give you an error saying it might not fit on a DVD5, but do it anyway. Once the file is shrunk down, you will be able to open it to shrink again. This works, and you don't loose much in quality that i can tell.
