You can't do anything with v2.60.
Neither ISOs emulation nor Homebrews!

To the OP:
How much of a Newb are you?!?!
I mean I could forgive you had you just got it (The PSP?), from your Wal-Mart. But do you really mean to say that you had no idea that updateing past version 2.0, would kill your .iso (Dev-Ripoffs), & Homebrew (Nintento, Sega Ripoffs),.
Give me a freaking break! Mabey someday you'll get to run these things, but allas it won't be Today! If you'r still able to return this to where ever you got it from. You might wanna consider it. And pray that you only com off with a v2.0 (or less)...

You could have looked here before buying...I still don't have a PSP and have been an active poster since I came to this board about a 1/2 month ago...I probably know more about PSPs than some people here.
It's Festivus for the rest of us!

Well it's not like Homebrew & *.iso loading. Is some Ancient, Mystical Secret or something. I mean, it should be fairly commen knowledge that your going to currently need a v1.0 or a v1.50 to run any (or all), Homebrew. At the moment it is possible to run some Homebrew / Emulators in (or on), v2.0. But, no *.iso Loader(s).
AFAIK; S0NY should be about ready to release Firmware v3.0 (Soon going on rumors), 12/12/05 to be exact. Perhaps someone might find a new Hexpl01te to take advantage of. To get thes thing working again.
But, alas unless you have good reasion to do so (e.g. You have a LocationFree? Player), you should not update your PSP? beyond version 2.0. Which is currently needed for the current line of Games. GTA, Persuit Force, Hustle et-al. You can at least use the current Hexpl01t to downgade your PSP? to v1.5, to run Homebrew and or *.iso Loaders...

Yeah Kobra, as of a fortnight ago all store bought psps were 2.0, but they're selling quick, so they're prolly around 2.5 now... Tho ebay has a ridiculous amount of ceramic psps with 1.5 firmware.
There's no need to be so harsh Ichijoe, a lot of people buy the psp and then see what they're able to do with it afterwards, not everyone is technically minded, but who are we to judge them when they do start to get interested in it all?
But i understand you've prolly been fielding a lot of these questions on the board, so i'm sure you're initial impatience can be chalked up to that eh? lol.
Upgrading isn't always the best idea, anyone who has had to dick around with firmware up/downgrades on pc equipment know this well, if it's working fine, leave it.

Hmmm, you mean like SCUMM games? ie Monkey Island and all those lucasarts adventures? You can do that, there's a SCUMM emulator for the psp. Also the snes and megadrive ones work well also. The mame version i tried kept saying there were missing files in my roms, even tho all my roms are known to work perfectly... That's the only emulator i'm hanging for, wanna play some streetfighter vs xmen/marvel vs capcom. But in the meantime i'm more than happy playing Bleach 2, phwoar i love anime and fighting games.
EDIT There's only one thing you have to know when buying a new psp, what firmware it has on it. This can be identified on the box by the model no.... ie mine is psp-1002k, which i bought from retravision, then went across the road and bought one for dad from harvey norman's same model no. Dad's came with 2.0, with the browser, mine came with 1.52, no browser, but essentially 2.0 as far as running the good stuff goes. Had tio upgrade to 2.0, then downgrade to 1.50, dad isn't interested in emulating umds etc, so he's happy with his browser, but he won't update the firmware cause he knows that if he ever does want to play games off the mem stick, he can't update it (yet) but give it time, and we'll be playing gta off the mem stick in no time...... ;)

lol you snuck that in whilst i was editing my post lol.
No wireless only AFAIK, there could be a usb cable for it out to hook up thru your pc (such as the usb to av chords) but i highly doubt it, and now that i think of it, going to check out how to get usability whilst the usb is enabled.
I haven't bothered with any online play yet, but use the web browser out of fired up to get on the net with my 1.5, works a charm, but yeah, wireless only i think, someone else might here might know.

kobra05 - this lesson applies to anything in life - when you are looking to find out about something - do some RESEARCH first. I wasnt a pro or hacker by any means - but when I found out psps could run .isos off memsticks, i googled and read up - eventually you came across the great sites like ps2nfo and psp-hacks where all the secrets are revealed.
The message became glaringly obvious on any page or post you read \
"HOMEBREW ONLY WORKS ON 1.00 - 1.50" version psps. which are generally ones people imported from japan. This is as by the time the psp was *officially* release in US/EUROPE and australia(where I am ) they were generally shipping 1.51 and over - which CANNOT RUN HOMEBREW.
I remember ringing Ebgames and getting some guy who had no clue when I asked him
1) were the psp in stock made in japan or china (chinese psp are beyond 1.52 and have poorer quality screens made by samnsung, not the sharp screens like the japanese ones)
2) what firmware do they run ??
the guy had no idea
* * *
therefore, unless you had a cool gameshop which imprted 1.50s in your town(a couple of my friends in teh US did) the only other option you have is online purchasing - either from re-seller sites or places like ebay :) I got mine from ebay from a guy that just lived 20 mins away and had imported 100s of 1.50s to re-sell...
so if/until someone figures out how to downgrade 2.60 you are outt luck. If it was only a recent purchase and you really want to be able to run isos and cool stuff like NES/SNES emulators, then Id suggest you return it and hunt down a 1.50
good luck :)

Hunting down a 1.5 would be a lot harder than tracking down a 2.0, and it's easy enough to downgrade it...

ebay is crawling with them, new and boxed with warranty. Better do that than try downgrade, and if you stuff it up(as some overeager people have) have bricked their psp without even having used it.
1.50 all the way :)

Yes but, are those TRUE v1.5's, or are they mearly just v1.5x / v2.0's that were downgraded. Yep there is a slight difference. In a Security Socket that would otherwise allow you to connect to S0NYs' Live!?-like Server to play Infrastructure Games with v1.5.
Thing is I don't know any Games that even made use of Infrastucture (i.e. Wireless Internret), Mode, muchless for Firmware v1.5. The only Game I'm positive that has it, is SOCOM: Navy Seals. And as I hope you all should know by now. That's a v2.0 *ONLY* Game just like good 'ol GTA:LCS etc...

hehe.... I know mine is 1.5 because I bought it long before psp was released in this country :p Its box/serial also identified it as a made in japan/"for sale in japan only" PSP1000. In addition the manual is in japanese(had to get english one off lik-sang) :p It can only play r2 movie umds(which I dont use anyway - I just use psp9) It doesnt have a problem playing some of the newer "region coded" games as 1.0-1.5 japanese release psps were "region free" coded for games. Later Psps that made it for overseas releases unfortunately do not have this :(
I havent played GTA-LCS, and dont plant to, but as far as infrastructure gaming, have been playing FIFA 2006 with no hassles, mainly through mu home wireless access point. I tend to use ad-hoc mode against mates more than that tho. I much prefer to play pc/ps2 online if im at home

hehe- the only thing a 1.5 wont do is play movie UMDs from non region 2 countries. but who has movie umds ?? anyonce can convert a dvd they already to mpeg4 format with an excellent free program called psp9.
The other thing is playing games like GTA - being able to play GTA means not being able to play isos and emulators(unless you upgrade then downgrade) Its a matter of choice :)

Hay that stab was not fair! I did get the SpidermanČ UMD with both my Value Paks. Unfortuntly I had to send One of 'em back because of a MemoryStick dieing on me. not to mention the Six (or so), dead Pixles. So I do have in fact Two UMD Movies. Both SodermanČ unfortunatly. =(
One other quick note about UMD Movies. When they first came out over here, they wanted something like ?29.00 ~ ?35.00(EUR) For them. The last time I went by (I was off to get the R30 DVD Set! BTW), I saw them going for only ?19.99(EUR), each.
So perhaps when they knock another ?10.00(EUR), off that, I'll think about it!!

To the OP did you just get your PSP??!?
Or did you unwittingly update it?!? There is a slight difference...
If you just bought it, I'd try takeing it back to where ever (clame dead Pixles! that should work!),. And pray like hell you don't get stuck again. It may prove well to try a different location.
And I did say I could forgive you had you just picked it up! Perhaps when you stick 'round here long enough. You'll understand where I'm comming from with all these Questions that get asked over, and over and over again....

lol, i'm in the same boat as you astrotoy i prefer the ad hoc for psp, online with my xbox/pc.
ichijoe, pretty sure you can't buy a psp with firmware 2.6 anywhere yet, sounds like he upgraded it first, asked questions later, live and learn eh? Don't worry man, everyone knows what these forums can be like, peeps asking the same questions as the previous thread, nobody searching or reading anything...
