I apologize if this subject is in the wrong forum...

Looking at buying a Dual Layer DVD burner.

When ripping a disc can I set DVD Shrink for 8.5 gb instead of 4.7gb?

If not can I just use DVD Fab and then burn direct using Nero?

If you want to burn a DL you won't need shrink at all. Just use decrypter and read ISO and write ISO for a 1:1 copy. I don't know how it's done in Nero but I would think it would give you that option.

I don't see why you couldnt set a custom size in DVD Shrink to accomodate a double layer disc...I was actually thinking about that yesterday.

Deja Vu!

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am at my office and do not have access to Shrink at the moment.

I do have DVD Fab as well and figured I would use this to strip the macrovision (or whatever it is called nowadays) and then burn straight with Nero....

Just downloaded shrink to office computer to play with.

Under Edit and then preferences it allows you to choose 4.7 or 8.5 GB disc.

But does Shrink strip the copy protection?

The best method would be as 9mmruger said, use DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode, then use ISO write mode to burn from the MDS file. DVD Decrypter has been known to create fewer coasters than other progs (including Nero)...and make sure that you burn from the MDS file as it contains the layer break information.

I see you were typing the same time I was. LOL

DVD Shrink will strip the copy protections, however, since it is no longer being updated it can no longer handle the newer encryptions. So you will need the aid of another program such as AnyDVD or DVD43 to help out. Or just rip to HDD using DVDFab Decrypter. All the mentioned progs are free with the exception of AnyDVD which can be test driven for 21 days.

Some yes, others unfortunately no. That is where AnyDVD or DVD43 or DVDFab decrypter come in.
