The problem with converting, encoding, burning is that there are way to many devices and options to choose from and figuring out what software and devices work well together. I have a fast computer with a Plextor 916 DVD burner as well as a Canopus 100 capture device. I captured roughly 25 gig of retail movie (VHS) onto my hardrive (I have over 400 available gigs). It's AVI, no problem. I used Mainconcept to encode and brought it down to 4.3 gig MPeg. Tried to burn with Nero and error, to many gigs. Played with kbs in Mainconcept and brought it down to 6000, which encoded to 4.0 gig. Tried to burn with Nero, again, same error. I'm using Nero 6 Ultra, btw. Tried Roxio 7, poor quality burn. Tried WinDVD (Intervideo) same crap. Bought Deepburner and it wants TS_video and TS_audio files... to burn. I'm sure many people out there have the right combo that works for them. I think I have a good capture device, the burner works great, I'm using AMD 4000, 1 gig ram, speed is not a problem... VirtualDub crashed on me (for capturing) any other suggestions would be appreciated. Also, my main subject question: Is there a way to convert a single AVI to TS_video and TS_audio files? If I can succeed at that than maybe I can burn with this "Deepburner" program. Whew!

Yes, it's called "authoring".
There are plenty of programs to choose from, starting with ReJig, which gives you a simple autoplay DVD (no menus) to DVDLab Pro or Scenearist, which give you complete control over the DVD creation process.

Black holes are where God divided by zero...

All these programs you have been trying and failing with, how have you been uninstalling them as if you dont do it properly they will leave residual files which eventually will conflict with each other causing conflicts and burn errors.

For Nero use there cleantools and roxio , that roxio zapper.

As to the main question.Try using vso DivX to dvd, not the free version as it lacks certain codecs etc as its now reasonably old. This program will be able to convert your AVI to a dvd compatible format (mpeg2).You then should not have an issue burning with say Nero recode.

heres a link to the trial software. Its a weeks trial but i think you'll find that its a worthy addition to any ones collection of dvd encoding applications.

Andmerr, I haven't uninstalled any of the programs, didn't realize I had to. Could be one of my problems. Thanks. Thanks rebootjim for the advice as well. I've been getting closer and closer to finally getting the result I'm looking for. Is there a cleanup software to remove Intervideo WinDVD remnants as well? I'm planning on doing a thorough clean out. Maybe I should format the hard drive and start from scratch?
