Help! DVD Problems

DVD burner will burn DVD's playable only on my PC, not in the DVD player except a DVD+R RW. I have used both DVD-R's & DVD+R's with the same results. The Program I'm trying to use is Cyber link Ppower Producer 3.

I had Pinnacle Studio 9 on the same machine and uninstalled it when
it started to ask me to pay and download individual codecs.

I was told that there is something wrong with the burn engine.(Software related) If so how do I fix the problem?

The Drive is a "Sony DVD RW DW-D26A JYS2" with no firmware udate available. Region free
