My PS2 is making a very loud noise kind of like a grinding and I was told that it is the laser gear i took it off and cleaned it but it still makes the noise but now sometimes it plays do I need a new laser gear ?. Another is it gets to a part where it needs to load and sometimes the disc slows down and doesn't load and you have to reset the game a few times to get it to work. Does anyone have any help or suggestions that might be helpful?

its not the laser gear what you need is a new laser arm thats what is making all that noise when it is trying to read the disks
all that happend is the teeth have worn on the laser arm have out from all that game play heres a link which leads to ebay if you wanna buy a new one and it comes with instructions on how to fit it which is very easy to fit in!!!

iv had this problem with many of my ps2's and fix it with this
only cost about £4 inc p&p
