well, with a company that is KNOWN to be putting FAKE media ID coding on their discs, i would be VERY weary about even the Sony coded ones...
in their 8x DVD-R variety, they have the SONY08D1 coded ones as well as their FAKE Taiyo Yuden TYG02 coded ones~ at least with the TYs, i KNOW 100% that they are fake~! you can generally judge a media company based on their PAST manufacturers...and GQ, has used some of the crappiest manufacturers out there...
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4.7GB MUST 003.... 8x (yeah, it MUST be crap, LOL)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4.7GB OPTODISCR008 8x (optodisc, you gotta be kidding me if you consider optodisc a good manufacturer)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD-R 4.7GB MCC 02RG20 8x (see, i would be WEARY about this one too, in it being faked, as Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp. is very good quality stuff, BUT, since they can fake the Taiyo Yuden TYG02 coding, what makes you think they can't fake the MCC coded ones too?)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4.7GB INFOME..R20 8x (well, it's OUTFOME in this case, i would never be "in-fo-me" w/ this crap)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4.7GB LD......S03 8x (never even HEARD of this one, it's Lead Data Inc., but i've never actually used it before...hahahahha, that's a first)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4.7GB MCC.....003 8x (one of my FAVORITE codes actually, but, can't tell you if it's genuine or not, would have to look ON THE DISC for me to verify this one)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4.7GB PRODISC.R03 8x (same as the MIT Fuji 8x DVD+R, i don't consider Prodisc very good PERSONALLY)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4.7GB OPTODISCOR8 8x (but, Prodisc is hella lot better than Optodisc~ LOL)
GQ (Great Quality) DVD+R 4.7GB SONY....D11 8x (here is the one that you said you got, i don't know about this as i don't use Sony's own coded media at all, so, who knows?)
Great Quality (GQ) DVD+R 4.7GB OPTODISCR16 16x (and finally, history repeats itself w/ CRAP optodisc in their newest 16x rated media...will the madness never stop?)
if you think ALL these for the 8x rated discs are bad, dont' even get me started on the 4x...HOLY COW, now THAT is beyond crap~
hope that clarifies a bit...i would PERSONALLY recommend you NOT get ANY of the GQs media...if you had success with the Sony coded media, buy them under the Sony brand name where you know it's OBVIOUSLY NOT FAKED, as with GQs reputation, who knows?

I completely agree with Doc. Don't buy CHEAP media, especially if you value your backup and its longevity as much as your original.
@thegood16
No offense alright, and I really mean it, but those are CRAP media. Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544 for more information on High Quality vs Cheap/Crap media scans. I've got tons of evidences in there and still more to come.
