Hi there.
Recently I bought a Plextor PX-M402U. In the package was also the cd of Intervideo with DVD-Creator 2. I had many problems in using this program. When I try to contact with Intervideo regarding their software, they told me that I have to download the trial version, and if I like it, then I can buy it. Actually they don?t support users like me.
They told me exactly that? ?At this time, Intervideo TSD (Technical support department) does not offer support on OEM bundle software and support on this product will need to go to your OEM vendor for further assistance?.
The problem is that when I bought the ConvertX, it didn?t say in the package that ?We don?t support OEM to users?.
However, I found that ?smart rendering? is good in this program only when your videos don?t exceeds 76min. If your videos on the timeline are more than 77min, you will sure have a problem.
I also discover the bitrate of capturing on each case. Here are the results
mp1+2 high quality = 720x576 with 6000 bit/sec
good quality = 720x576 with 4500 bit/sec
standard quality = 576x352 with 3000 bit/sec
standard quality = 576x352 with 3000 bit/sec
extended quality = 352x288 with 2000 bit/sec
video cd ty = 352x288 with 1150 bit/sec (but it?s mpeg-1)

I wish someone told me all these things, before I buy this product or at least I wish I have read that at the pdf document that was in the instalation cd-rom.

Conclussion: I love Plextor. But Intervideo should not be so rude with customers.

Here I have to inform you about some tests I did...
If you use "Intervideo's DVD Creator 2"... I can explain what the "smart render" do exactly.
If you activate ?smart render??
1...and the program you want to burn has duration almost 75 min and you choose to burn a DVD with High Quality (1 Hour DVD), the render process happens in just a few minutes ( for 75 min program the render takes about 10 minutes). In the preview window you see only the beginning and the end of the chapters. You don?t see all the chapters. Just the beginning and the end.
2...and the program has duration more than 75 min and you decide to burn a DVD with High Quality (1 Hour DVD), then there are two possibilities. The one is two render in real time all the project. (this will take you more than 76 minutes). The second possibility is to render only the beginning and the end of each chapter, but in a chapter that it will decide be its own, it will begin to render in real time, until the end of the program (you have on the timeline).
3..and the program has duration 2 hours and you decide to burn a DVD with High Quality (1 Hour DVD) you will face different problems. You see, the program let you burn a 2 hour program in a ?One Hour DVD with High Quality? Sometimes, I get inverted colors in menu, program and chapters, sometimes I get one photo (usually of the 1st chapter) instead of the photos of the next chapters. Sometimes, I don?t have picture in some chapters.
If you don?t activate ?Smart Render? and you want to render a program les than 75 minute, you will get the render but in a slow motion (and not real time). It tooks me about 6 hours for rendering a 2 hours program.

The final conclusion is that?. ?Always activation of smart render?, and if the project on the timeline is about 1 hour, then for sure choose ?One Hour High quality DVD?.
If your program on the timeline exceeds 76 minutes, then for sure you have to choose the render and burning of a DVD in ?2 Hours Standard Quality DVD?.
