Hi all. Firstly I want to thank all those who contribute to the forums I find you all to be very helpful. I am new to burning DVDs and am having a problem. Every DVD I have burned has a pause in it (about 12 DL DVDs to date, it's getting expensive) I have been trying different rippers and burners all to no avail. The pauses are sometimes in the middle or at the end of the movie and if I fast forward the player for a second they resume playing perfectly. I have used DVD Decrypter 3.1.7.0 and DVDFAB 2.9.6.2 to rip. I have used Video Vault 3.5.0 to burn. As well I have tried DVD Cloner III and Clone DVD to rip and burn. All these combinations have resulted in the same pause result, only once through the movie. Originally I was using Memorex media and after reading the forums decided to switch to Verbatim, same result. I am using an LG DL Drive. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

If you are getting a pause in the middle of th e movie that is where the layer change is at , have you tried it on another players, all players are not accepting of dl disks, I have two that will play them perfectly and two that will pause and freeze at the layer and other points in the movie.

Hey arniebear, no I only have the one standalone player to check them out on. I thought this may be the problem with the layer break, but is there any way to prevent this pause or is it something I must live with. Thanks for your response.

If you only have one player then I guess you got to live with it. As stated my DL will play fine with no pauses/freezes on two players one of them is a new Sony which replaced a Sanyo I bought 8 months ago and would not play my DL's at all. You can try more experimentation with ImgBurn, there is a new release of this program and has more support for dl burning. You can check it out at the ImgBurn site, as you know ImgBurn is by LUK!! who created DVD Decrypter.
http://www.imgburn.com
I have found that Decrypter and now ImgBurn to be the best programs for DL. Just use the iso read mode open your mds file and then iso write. With ImgBurn you can place the layer break differently if you want but I usually leave it where it is at.

As I already have posted several times before I have already spent a small fortune to DL discs sice I realized that:
(1). Burn always to cerfified speeds (since now +R DL discs certifying only the 2.4X speed).
(2). Remove Layer Break before burning (this feature is provided best with CloneDVD2).
(3). Use repectable DL discs (I suggest Verbatim or Philips +R DL discs).
(4). Prefare to rip the original compilation in Image and not in File Mode.
(5). If you rip in File Mode exceed all possibilities of probable protections using all known programs (FreeDVD, IFOEdit, etc).
(6). If everything fails but the new comilation is playable to your PC or in a friends stand alone player then scream first and then throw your off the window (screaming is necessary to avoid injuries to the passing beings).

Best method for DL media is to get the latest DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0.
> MODE, ISO, Read R into your hard drive
> MODE, ISO, Write W and choose the MDS file
NOTE: make sure you use top notch media like Verbatim DVD+R DL

You've got a great combination to do the dl backups. Another option would be DVD Decrypter to rip in ISO mode, and burn with ImgBurn, which was created by lightningUK. It's very similar to dvd decrypter's ISO write mode.BurnIMG looks just like DVD Decrypter, just doesn't have the ripping program of iso read and file mode. It's said to be a more thorough dl burning program than DVD Decrypter.
I'll bet $10 that it is your stand alone player. I too had that exact same issue at the layer break. First thing to do is take note of where that layer break is-chapter wise where the freezing occurs. Then view that backup on your pc using the same DVD-RW drive that produced it-to play it. Notice that same area while that DVD-RW drive plays it's own dl backup. It should play perfect!
A $37 magnavox wal-mart special took care of that issue! You're dl backups are probably ok,so don't throw them away just yet. Test those dl backups on some friends and family members drives and see how they react to them.

Hey saugmon you'd win that bet. I played the area where the pause was on my standalone and it played fine on the pc I used to burn it. I guess I will have to live with these pauses until I get a new player. Thanks very much for your helpful advice.

Your best bet would be "book typing" your DVD+R DL into DVD-ROM format when using DVD Decrypter to burn, that is... if you have any Lite-On/SONY, LG, BenQ, Plextor, ect. that DVD Decrypter supported. Nearly 99% of my backups are book typed into DVD-ROM and they all plays flawlessly on any of my stand alone dvd players.
Well, here is a guide on how to "book type" via DVD Decrypter. This is when you're "ready" to burn to the blank media (DVD+R DL, DVD+R, DVD+RW) only. NOTE: set both of your "source" and "destination" ready, then do the following and burn it.
Good luck and have fun burning!!

Thanks alkohol. I'm definately going to try that. I'm in the process of ripping another movie with DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 as you advised previously on my other computer and once done I will follow your instructions on burning. I'll let you know how it goes after I have watched it. Thanks for all your help.

@stealthrt
You're welcome. Glad I could help you to resolve your problem. Now just remember to get high quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden and Maxell "made in japan" (for 4.7GB single layer disc) and Verbatim 2.4X - 4X DVD+R DL (for double layer) and keep all your burning speeds to 4X only, and you'll be fine.
