Thought I might pass on some info on some problems that I had with burn speeds on a Plextor PX 712A, and jerky playback on movies using DVD Shrink. I ran into some issues with the burner starting at 8X then slowing down to 2X when writing movies to 4X -R disc. I had no clue as to what happened after about 9 months of everything working OK. I tried cleaning, different brands of media, investigating settings, (giving the burner a severe tongue lashing), but nothing worked. Finally I gathered my wits and went to Plextors website and downloaded a firmware update for this model, installed it, and now everything works great, in fact the discs burn at 6-7X on 4X media.

Secondly I would like to pass on a tip that I picked up on these forums, concerning jerky and freeze frame playback on copied movies. I started using DVD shrink 3.2 and had not tried to play the movies until I had about 20 or more burned and labeled. All seemed to freeze, jerk, of simply refused to play. After much frustration I found this site and someone (I appoligize for forgetting who) had posted the same problem and the solution. It was simply the full labels that we were using that apparently caused wobble and laser tracking problems. After peeling the labels (which the person explained exactly how to accomplish this) I had no problems at all with playback. I now use a small hub label that I get from "Surething" and everything works fine. I prefer the hub labels over a felt marker because my handwriting is pretty shaky at my age of 62. I have around 400 movie backups that play just fine. I am extermely grateful to the chap who explained the solution to this problem. Thanks to all the administrators, those who post solutions, and those who ask for help. We all need help at some time or another. By the way, it's snowing in Michigan, USA. Happy Hollidays to all!!!!!

Give me a roll of duct tape and I can fix anything !!!
