Well, after much trying, I finally had some success getting MPT to recognize my V551.

What I did...
1. obtained a copy of MPT (location shall remain nameless - but there are a myriad of sites/copies out there).
2. ran a live update which brought me upto version 3.25 I believe
3. download p2k drivers from bongowireless' download site.
4. In Device Manager, updated "Other Device" driver and pointed to p2k driver folder. ('other device' is my phone)
5. restarted MPT and everything hooked up beautifully.

I hope anyone with issues getting MPT to connect to their phone can follow what I did. I've been messing with it for three hours straight now, so I can't really provide much more detail than I already have - mostly because I've tried so much, that everything is running together into a big, huge, brain-blur.

Good luck to all others! Sure seems like MPT has a lot of issues.
