ive been reading thru other threads to see if this problem has been brought about and also i few questions i had of my own. no such luck in finding answers so i figured time to just come out and ask.
i have been burning for well...im a newby but i know a bit about computers. started off fine and then things all of a sudden got bad during a burn of "Red Dawn" when i got all the way thru the decrypt and shrink then while burning dvd-r fails time and time again. tried it w/ other movies and got same result so im wasting dvd-r's left and right. now question being should i uninstall evrything as other threads have suggestd or can i do a manual burn from nero by pulling the TS_VIDEO file out and sliding it into a dvd video format?? i could use some help as the person who recently set me up w/ this has made it very obvious he wants nothing to do w/ tech support, more or less just wants my money. With friends like this... anyone got any ideas, if needed ill waste another dvd-r to give u guys a log of the error
thnx

If you follow the advise and suggestions of these great people on this forum and gides like Scuba petes and Alkohols for example they'll have you making great DVD's. Number 1 is the media.

That sounds like read errors which will cause your drive to become a coaster ejector. I'd try burning using the burn speed on the blank DVD media i.e. 8x, 16x, 4x you know what ever it says. Use "slow burn" option 95% of the time. Get NERO if you don't already have it. It is the best overall burn media program out there, minus encryption software, (In my opinion). And make sure your PC is up to date and functional i.e. Hard Drive and Memory. Burning disc is quite a demanding task for most PC's Also make sure all other applications or programs are closed. The ole' "Just add a DVD burner and mix" is just not that simple if you have a PC in dire need of an upgrade. Oh, I failed to mention, Use quality blank media which is often found on sale at your local "Best Buy" or "Circuit City" in the US. My media of choice is SONY 8x DVD-R, Just read the label there blank media does what it says. Most media found in stores and online makes no claims to blank media quality.

Well see the guy who set it up builds these things for a living its his job so im assuming its something im doing. im using 8x RIDATA and i havent had any trouble untill just now, like i said ive not been burning long but ive burnt alot, naturally speaking got alot of movies i always wished i had. now i burn at 8x and have 8x dvd-r's and get like i would have to imagine 35-45% thru the dvd and then it says some sorta error...and w/ my short temper span i dont really pay attention to the message, mainly just curse alot; throw the useless dvd-r; then listen to music while i occupy myself w/ a good cigar. now mention of sony dvd-rs which i seen in a screen shot test u guys did on quality in another thread was pretty cool but ive found that for the most part these ridata do me pretty good. i do have Nero however and thats why i had askd if i could just take the TS_VIDEO file out of the decryted\shrink file and then burn it using Nero? to further this even more my computer is quite up to date so i dont think its a compatability/hardware conflict.

As a rule of thumb burn your media at 1/2 its rated speed. With a good quality dvdrw drive and good quality media you can usually burn the media at its rated speed with the exception of 16x media which I wouldn't burn over 12x. A Nero log would help. Copy and paste the last log editing out your serial no. It can be found in C:/program files/ahead/nero/nerohistory.

ok so all these things are good advice now i have a quick question to use b4 i try to get a log for ya'll, when i get done shirnking the file it automaticlly comes up w/ dvd decrypter to burn. how do i select nero...or should i just let it do what its doing? and i do have anydvd cuz the guy sd that it would help me w/ some of the more complicated dvds i wanted such as stealth and bewitched. havent burnt those yet becuz im still stuck on this. also while Encoding using dvd shrink my computer makes a nice little hummmm-HUMMM noise. but i cant tell if its the dvd-rw or the comp itself? any thoughts?....no i can tell for sure its the computer itself cuz even when the drive is open it does it

Open shrink and the choose Edit, Preferences, File I/O and make sure the burn with Nero button is checked.
Are your files iso or Vob?
Quote: TS_VIDEO file out and sliding it into a dvd video format
Decrypter only burns iso files.

*SIGH*** ok so im currently watching a perfectly good burnt movie. i changed what i had done. any thought on this interesting thing. if i go thru the steps of dvd decrypt; DVD Shrink then creat iso image and burn w/ DVD Decrypter its fails out at 35% if i just burn w/ Nero after shrink w/out creating an iso then it burns fine. (perhaps this will make no since to anyone becuz i dont really know the proper language but it works)

Remove your cover and make sure the cpu and case fans are working. Could be coming from power supply too.

Yeah, It's normal to hear a whirling humm from your DVD drive at some point during the burning process, Not all do this but some.

so should i check my fans while encoding becuz i would assume this to be a power problem as it sounds like this only when i shrink\encode dvd's. perhaps to explain it better it; sounds like its struggling, ummmm the kinda sound u get when u stick a golf ball (or friends stomach) to the end of a running vaccum attachment. its a low hummmm then a 1-2 second louder hummmm then it quits, then starts again probably 2-5 seconds later. continues all the way thru the encoding process then stops. to give u an idea im running a 2.8ghz processor (dont ask what kind, its a decent one) shuttleX (the mini) with 512 sdram and a LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW 1693S. runs of cd-r at 48X and dvd at max 10X i think.

Better check you fan as suggested, I had this problem when my fan crapped. Try blowing some compressed air in your fan and clean it out. Shrink is CPU intensive and will heat up the processor so your fan will start running but if it is making noise make sure your fan is working. You can try another transcoding program like Nero Recode or CloneDVD which is not as hard on your CPU.

supermediastore.com
meritline.com
rima.com
newegg.com
i get 99% of mine from supermediastore ,go with Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim ,its the best out there. heres a link to a great deal on Taiyo Yuden 200 pack DVD-R 8x 59.99
http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-...
also your better off NOT using paper labels ,longterm NOT good can cause playback problems ,use either inkjet printables or just use a sharpie as i do and most in here

Sunday ads are good, you can usually pick up the good media brands, Sony, Maxell, Verbatim and Fuji on sale. For online buying you have reputable sellers of what a lot members consider the best media and that is Taiyo Yuden.
http://www.supermediastore.com http://www.meritline.com http://www.rima.com
As for paper labels I am not an advocate of them, they can cause a problem with playback. If you have been putting paper labels on you DVD's try not doing it and see if your playback improves.

both u guys are pretty good if u ask me, now u had metioned inkjet printables? where, what, how much...also ive had no problems w/ playback i mean i suppose u guys would know a hell of alot more then myself but i have been doing fine w/ a cd stomper and paper only time i run into problems w/ playback is when i use Sony brand dvdr i guess my burner doesnt like them cuz i get alot of skipping during the main intro and then lot of skipping towards the prviews and production company titles. but once again only seems to be w/ sony which is why i was turned onto ridata, the guy who set me up showed me these, dont know much but like the outcome (except the bit of trouble i had prior to these posts)
