How to make a multiplexed MPEG from MV2 and AC3?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help . . .

I've read other threads with this topic, but I can't seem to extract the answer I need. Forgive me for being a newbie.

My goal is to be able to create a multiplexed mpeg file from the mv2 (video) and ac3 (audio) files I've extracted from a dvd using smart-ripper.

I used SmartRipper to extract the mv2 and ac3 files from a single chapter of a Family Guy Season 1 DVD. (I'm not intent on making illegal copies, as I own the original DVD -- I'm just using this DVD to learn with.)

I also acquired TMPGenc Plus. When I start up TMPGenc, I use the wizard and select that I want to create an NTSC-compliant DVD, with MPEG-1 Layer II audio (mp2).

I then get to the window where I'm supposed to browse for the video and audio file, and here is where I get into problems:

#1 - TMPGenc gives an error message -- "[the file I've selected] cannot be opened, or is not supported" -- when I select the mv2 file. It still gives me this error message even if I convert the filename extension from mv2 to mpg, and then select it again.

#2 - I get the same error message when I select the ac3 file as my audio file.

I've read elsewhere that one needs an ac3 plugin, but I don't know how to get this -- are there any free ones out there? Or should I convert the ac3 audio file to a different format -- and if so, how?

And what's with the video file error? When I convert the filename extension from mv2 to mpg, the video plays just fine in Media Player (no audio, of course).

Any help is much appreciated!!

For muxing I use Imago MPEG-Muxer. Look in the Free Software post of the DVD Authoring Links & Resources sticky (http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/263267).
