Last week got a nice new Samsung Burner, copied a few DVD's using a combination of software as recommended on Afterdawn ie. DVD Fab Decoder, DVD Shrink etc. I have a playback problem with most of them on my Philips DVDR machine but on my "Compacks" machine it wants to play them, but the Audio isn't good ie. background sound & music OK but dialogue inaudiable. There isn't a dialogue problem on the Philips machine, and they play on my computer OK with PowerDVD. What can I do to tweak the audio so they work with my "Compacks" player.

Regards,

Willyum

Hello and welcome to Afterdawn.
What kind of media did you use???
What speed did you burn them at???
These are two important questions because they can cause the problems that you have.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the response, I think I may have been a bit of a "Numpty" here. I burnt it slowly using Datawrite 4x DVD+R media & tried it in my Philips DVDR 880 sound was OK but picture was a bit jumpy. Tried my Compacks supposedly play anything machine & the picture was great but then came the strange sound ie background noise perfect but rubbish dialoge by flicking through options I could get the dialogue with talk over from director etc.

I was a bit annoyed & gave up the day after I went back decided it may have been a faulty machine and after going through just about every one of about 50 options I pressed virtual surround sound & bingo the dialogue was O.K.

I still have no idea why the picture jumps on my Philips DVDR & it won't play well on a Sony Playstaion 2 either. Is there any way to improve the copy so they will ?

you say datawrite i assume there Verbatim? correct ,thats good media others to consider is Taiyo Yuden

theres a few things you can do
1. slow down your burn speed to 4x
2.make sure your burner has the lastest firmware update
3. booktype your dvd+r media to dvd-rom ,this makes it more compatible with all dvd players out there.heres some threads on booktyping

also you could try different software to backup your dvds that have more control over the audio clonedvd 2 with anydvd would be my choice, heres a guide to use the programs you mentioned and the one i mentioned

one more thing while your in the burning mod dont run any other programs

Hi Again,

I had a go but no success. I read all the info on the links and tried changing settings to DVD-ROM but my Samsung burner doesn't seem to fit the bill. The model I have HS-552U isn't very expensive doesn't seem to have the Ricoh chipset & failed miserably. If you know something I don't know please advise. The software I tried was Nero 6 & DVD Decrypter.

Thanks again.
