Ok, we've added couple of tags to the forums -- now you can write in bold or in italics or even add images. The features are listed at the top of the thread create and message reply pages.

actually dRD a few smilies would be a great way to lighten up the forum a bit from the old black text. I mean the images is great but when you've nowhere to host your images it can be a small problem :-)

Are we allowed to use smileys off other sites? (Like I did).

Chris:
That's pretty clever stuff! (I'm new at this). Not quite sure how to do it though.
For example, there's a 'rolling' icon from your link (http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/roll.gif). I got the url by choosing 'properties' like you said, then I "copied address URL". This seems to put the icon into my clipboard, (I can view it with the 'Paint' program).
How to _insert_ it into an a/D message though?
:rollin <-- (this is the text they say to use)
Oh! Never mind! (I should read the instructions more carefully) <gg> Got It!
Thanks, -- Mike.

I probably come from too old skool in this issue, I began ""this stuff"" back in 1990/1 with 2400bps modem and later with USR HST DS in BBS "scsne" -- everything was in plain ASCII, no pics whatsoever :-)
But, as the img tag shows, every now and then I bow under pressure from our users :-) But the integrated emoticons provided by AfterDawn.com WONT come to the forums as long as I run this thing ;-)

Yep :-) Well, anyway, hopefully everybody enjoys the new tags and also I hope that the forums don't get slower due massive images in posts.

You should add to the rules:
Only use small images like .gif or .jpg
Also do you plan to implament any other tags?

Oh dear. You mean, I won't be able to post 175K hi-res DVD cover scans for folks who ask for them?
Yeah, dRD, this stuff gets into your blood early. I was a majot BBS fan; I would call long distance regularly just to receive messages. Didn't download very much. I was working on an old Radio Shack computer with a single lo-density (720k) floppy.
All 'art' then was either ascii-art or ansi-art. (Remember ansi-art?) DOS reigned supreme, with only a smattering of Win 3.1, and 'the internet' was something only the big Universities used. No graphics printers then. I had a 9-pin dot-matrix thingee which I was thinking of upgrading. CD-Rom was hi-tech, and blank CDs hadn't been invented yet. When they entered the scene, they initially cost $45.00 Can *each*. !!!
Where will we be 10 years from *now*?
(Oh yeah), you may not provide emoticons internally, but they are available all over the place. I think, though, that the sheer tediousness of having to type in the l-o-n-g urls necessary to display them, will keep their use to a minimum.

Can't you just right-click, select properties, highlight URL, Ctrl-C to copy, and then Ctrl-V to paste? (sorry, just realised I've duplicated Chris's instructions).
I reckon my fingers are dyslexic, so typing a URL is a nono for me.
Better still paste all the URLs you want into a text file on your desktop, then copy and paste as required.
p.s. double-clicking a URL usually selects the whole thing.
Regards - John

Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. 367,261 bytes. Not exactly an 'emoticon' is it? What a terrific way to slow the forum down to a crawl, eh?
Please don't do that anymore.

It's 'ok' Wiz, I'll leave it.....
By itself it's not that big, it's just that if everyone put a pic that size in their posts, the forum would crawl to a standstill, especially for those of us (like me) who only have dial-up modems.
Your picture took about 1 minute to fully arrive by my modem. Multiply that by 10 (for 10 other messages all containing a same-size pic), and that means I'd have to wait 10 MINUTES to answer or read even a single message! How many members would hang around that long?????
