As we all know DVD decrypter updates have ceased due to the Sony Dragon, it's only a matter of time when new protection schemes will defeat the final version. Tried AnyDVD and it's awsome. Everything I had hoped and more. However, my fear is that I'll shell out $39 for a license and then 6 months later sends the hit men over to slysoft and whacks them across the chops. Then ... blamo $39 down the tubes as they'll go down the tubes and soon I'll have to shell out the next $39 for DVD-XYZ-RIPPER.

The software works SO WELL please someone tell me I'm wrong!

DVD Decrypter ain't dead yet - the news of its demise is probably somewhat premature.

Has many useful features and worth keeping in your arsenal and yes - used properly, it can circumvent the newer protections.

There are good working (and free) alternatives to AnyDVD

For ripping, DVD Fab Decrypter is very good. It's free and being updated quite often.

This is not true. The new stuff may be called copy "protection", but it is not really that. Think of it this way: say you put a hole in a DVD somewhere. When you try to rip it, it will freeze every ripping program because your drive will not be able to read the part with the whole, however, if you rip the stuff around the hole, you will have no problems.

Now, what Sony and Macrovision do is similar to putting a hole in your DVD, but they put the "hole" on a part that contains no data. I am not sure exactly how they do it, but they put unreadable sectors on a DVD that not even a DVD Player will read.

The reason the DVD Player plays the disc is that the area with the "hole" is never played, but skipped over. What DVD Decrypter updates did were make these unreadable parts of the DVD get skipped by the ripper, that is why you get an "Inserting Dummy Sectors" message.

You can temporarily, manually update DVD Decrypter by using PSL files. Use the link as shown by Wild77. These files take only 2 minutes max to make and are as simple as clicking your mouse 3 times.

AnyDVD is a great program, but it seems you do not want to spend the $40. DVDFab is a good program as well, but I like DVD Decrypter much more and I have the Platinum Version of DVDFab. DVD43 works like AnyDVD, but is not updated as often.

If you do not feel like making a PSL, I would recommend that you Download DVDFab. Use it only for movies that you know will cause problems and use DVD Decrypter for everything else. There are still over 50,000 movies that DVD Decrypter can rip with no problems and only about 5 to 10 that it needs some help with.

Also, if you are interested, I posted a guide where I used DVD Decrypter v3.1.0.0 (fomr May 2002) to copy Stealth, which uses a newer variant of ARccOS. I have also recieved word that it works on Ripguard. This shows that the new "protections" are nothing more than a fancy hole on a disc.

You should also look through some of the threads to see other ways people have gotten past the new corruptions found on a disc. There is also a very nice guide out there to Ripguard posted by Alkohol using VobBlanker.
