Alright, one of my disabled clients came to me with a problem with her PS2. Somehow... the DVD tray came to me in pieces. So I ordered a new tray for her correct version of PS2 and paying special care to the power cord.. I switched it out. But... now when I turn it on... it loads up with Browser configuration doesn't even seem to recognize a dvd, cd or game. Why isn't it recognizing anything in it. It sounds like it is spinning but it goes right to Browser configuration and nothing past that. She can't afford a new PS2 and I want to make it work for her. Any advice for this novice will be welcomed! Thanks,

Ryken

Ok so I tinkered a little and found the top part of the dvd deck... but it's still having issues recognizing any discs (PS, DVD, CD). It says error reading disc. Can it be fixed? If so how, and what do I need?

Have you moved or got dirt on the laser?
Start with a clean.
Also what version is it?

I haven't tried to clean the laser yet. I will try that tonight. The version of the PS2 she has is a scph-39001. I replaced it with a tray through ebay of the same version. It fits well and the cd ejects and spins with no interferance. The laser does come on, so it is working somewhat .. I am not sure yet if cleaning will remedy the situation. But I am hoping... I will post again later if the cleaning technique isn't working. Thanks for the tip!!!!

you can also try adjusting the laser high with the white wheel thing if the cleaning doesn't work.

I finally was able to clean the lens and air spray out the ps2 deck and after some very annoying trials with the front power button wire,I put the system back together. And it works! Thank you so very much BigDK and WEStar for your suggestions... without your help I would have had to pay big bucks to finish this project and it was originally meant as just something to help keep one of the little joy's in my individuals's life and not break my feeble bank. You both helped tremendously!
