Hello essay55, Sony is great quality media as long as it is made in japan ,those should code out as Taiyo Yuden great stuff A+ Quality!! i beleive that is in the +r media only though ? i never get the DVD-R sony media. The same goes for Fuji DVD+R made in japan media that should code out as Taiyo Yuden as well:) Now for the bad news ! TDK is pure Crapola !!! Buyer Beware of this horrid stuff!!! I have had nothing but bad luck with this type of media ... but even if you get the made in taiwan sony media it is 200% better than tdk !!! just my two cents worth ./ Unjust

Tdk: Try to avoid these. These aren't on sale very often and the quality can vary considerably between the japanese and taiwanese TDK media.

Sony is great in the 8x speed. Avoid the slower 4x speed if you find them any where. I have no trouble with the japanese sony +1x-8x that code as Yuden000-T02 and the Japanese dash 1x-8x that code as Sony08D1. The taiwanese plus 1x-8x are also pretty good. These will code as Sonyd11. The taiwanese dash 1x-8x have the same ID code as the japanese: Sony08D1. Sony also did this on their dash 4x.These were made in both taiwan and austria with the ID of Sony04D1.

These sony seem to go on sale quite often at Staples and best buy. You can get a 50 pack spindle for under $20
Get the spindles that say Made in Japan for the best quality.

I ended up buying the Sony DVD-R. They were made in Taiwan. Also, any reviews on nexxtech?
