Hi!

Now I've found a Rio Carbon 5gb for about $220 (in Sweden),
and I think that's really cheap, and really I want one.

I've looked around quite a lot on the Internet, and read reviews, but I haven't read anything bad about it. Only positive stuff.
So, I thought I'll try finding out the bad stuff about it, here.

Here goes:

+ The player doesn't sort the music in folders. What happen to the songs with no id3-tags...?

+ How long does it take to fill it with mp3:s?

+ Is it really 5gb? Isn't it about 4,7-4,8gb?

+ Is the buttons good?

I can't come up with any more right now, so...
+ Anything else?

ok to start with this
this player is awesome

I dont know about the songs without a tag cause I have them all with their names

The time it takes to fill it completely with songs really depends on your usb connection speed but mine takes about one hour because I have usb 1.1

no its not exactly 5gig mine has exactly 4769mb wich is around 4.68gig it fits around 1000 mp3 songs on good quality like 128kbps

The battery life is really good I charge it like from 3 to 3 days and I really listen to it like A LOT everyday I think I would go crazy without music LOL and it takes like 2 to 3 hours to get a full charge if the battery was low

The buttons are great when I bought my RIO last year I was affraid I was going to have problems with the buttons cause the last mp3 player I had the buttons just got wwasted and stopped working and my RIO still works fine

I have problems with some headphones if the plug of the headphone has a metal part touching the mp3 player u will hhear like a static noise but thats easy to fix, I just put a small piece of tape in the earphone plug to avoid it from touching the player metallic parts and that was it the static stopped

another problem that I had was that the player would freeze everytime the battery started to get low and sometimes it would freeze even with the battery full the only way to make it work was to reset it but problem was solved easily by upgrading the players firmware since then the I had no more problems

and u dont need to install anysoftware on ur computer the use it, U can just plug it to the computer and it will show as another removable drive and u can just drag the songs into it

I bought a Carbon the 23rd of December, and the next day, on the Swedish Christmas day, the player died when I used the microfone. When I pressed Stop, the player suddenly turned itself off, and I couldn't start it up again...
The latest firmware (1.43) should prevent that this happened, but not this time... I think I will send an e-mail to Digital Networks and tell them about it.

I went to the store yesterday, and got another Carbon,
I shall upgrade it, and try the microfone, and if it dies again, I will gete my money back.

I think that the Carbon is a wonderful player with fantastic sound! The best sound I've heard coming out of an mp3-player.

Best regards/ Thuyner.
