Perhaps I should give more details.
DVDx 2.1 (www.labdv.com) is free and fantastic for ripping 2-layer DVDs to a smaller mpg file for authoring onto a 1-layer DVD (for backup of course!), but it cannot set the chapter points (yet).
Cyberlink?s ?Power Director Pro 2.5? is great for capture and editing your movies. You can cut and join your movies, add fades, titles, PIP, effects and lots more, but it also doesn?t set chapter points. After making the mpg (or avi) you can use their wizard to build static menus and burn the DVD. This wizard will allow you to add chapters, but its crap! You have to navigate over the whole movie again which isn?t easy. Cyberlink need to give their wizard some more magic.
Once I got the movie made (as an MPEG2), I prefer to use Sonics MyDVD to author the DVD and make menus (with motion backgrounds and buttons). However, MyDVD cannot add chapters to a movie except while its being captured. Then you have to sit there pressing the space bar. If you miss a key chapter point, you?ll have to start again! This does add the chapter points to the captured mpg file, but these chapter points only seem to be usable by MyDVD, as WinDVD and PowerDVD movie players don?t see them.
So my questions are really:
1) Where are chapter points stored?
2) Is it possible to take a VIDEO_TS folder and edit a BUB or IFO file to add chapter points at known times to a movie, before burning it to DVD?
3) What good software is there for authoring DVDs, that take mpg files to make titles (movies), can add chapter points, good menus (with motion) ? oh yes ? and add slide shows with background music?
