Nerovision express encoding problem

When i encode a divx/xivd file, i get great ac 5.1 sound and excellent video quality, and my video is widescreen, but the entire border and screen are not black, its like a greyish black making it very noticable. Ive tried many dvd players to make sure it wasnt mine
Any help?
