I recently found a way to boot up PSX backups using the MC Exploit(thanks to another member of this forum). Here are the steps:

Load up an ELF Launcher that supports browsing the MISC folder, the PSX disc currently in the drive should stop (if it hasn't already). Use the slide card or flip top to change the disc and close the drive. Now, load up PS2Browser and choose the PSX game. The game will load. With my old backups, I can't get past the PSX Boot Screen where the PSX symbol comes up(probably cause of the brand of the discs). However. when I load Disc 1 of FF9 PAL Version(Not UK PAL) it just gives me a blank screen. I've heard that it has protection, but isn't that just mod chip protection?(Will not load in a modded console). I use the slide card so it shouldn't really matter though. So does anyone know how to boot up the first disc?(btw, I've tried using a larger PSX disc for TOC Refresh and I use TDK CD's, have always worked great with my PS2 CD backups)

Thanks,
Kenshin

Yeah I thought it was possible, but I didn't want to give you any BS info when I wasn't sure. The PAL version of FF9 is mod protected. http://www.go.to/psxcplist There is a patch for it. Mod protection keeps a backup of the game from being played. I.E. if it's a 1 to 1 copy of a game, it won't boot unless you patch the protection. You do have a mod, technically a MC exploit is a mod. Here's what you do:

46. Q. How do I burn PSX mod protected games?
A. First you'd need know if the game is mod protected: http://www.go.to/psxcplist http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_protected_games.shtml
Then you'd need to download the patch: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml
Then you patch it with PPFomatic: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_ppf.shtml#PPF-O-Matic
Then you burn it to CD-R with CDRWIN: http://goldenhawk.com/
PPF and CDRWIN tutorial: http://www.go.to/psxcplist
In some rare cases you may download a mod protected game that's not in .bin format. For those you'd need to burn the game to disc using the Alcohol %120 guide for PSX games posted earlier. Then you'd use CDRWIN to extract a .bin file to your HD. From there continue as normal. Note: This process can also be used to patch PSX PAL games to NTSC and vice versa with PPFomatic.

Well...there wasn't a patch for my version. However, I found a PSX Boot Disk on the site that removes copy protection, I can load it in my PSX emulator but it won't load in my ps2. It's about 600kb in size, will some dummy files help it load? If so, how do I create PSX dummy files?

Probably. You can use Sony CD-Gen to create dummy files. I'll PM it to you. You load in any decent size files (at least 10 MB) with the boot disk and create a bin file from it. Burn the cue file to CD, and that should help it load.
