Hi,
I have been successfully backing up dvd's for a while now, I use Shrink, decrypter and nero, to assist with my back up. Obviously not all at the same time:)

My question is pretty simple however not sure if the answer is simple! Is ther any difference when using single layer to dual layer? Do I still just put the media into my drive and burn as per normal or are there setting etc for dual layer media that need to be installed??

Cheers

some programs require you to set the option (burn to dual layer media) wile others are automatic otherwise the only difference would be the speed and amount of data you can store

To the best of my knowlege your burner has to be a D/L burner before it can tackle D/L discs, the burners themselves can determine if a D/L disc is being used. A normal burner will burn only 4.7g discs

Welcome to AD - if you are going to be copying your movies to a dual-layer disc for a true 1:1 copy, then I suggest that you look at this guide (link below) to burn your discs using DVD Decrypter:-

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/guides.htm

Please look for the 8th button in the middle of the page that says:-

"How to copy to a dual layer disk using DVD Decrypter"

I hope this guide written by bbmayo helps - please come back here and let us know how it goes and I'll try and help from there.

Good luck

Regards

Hi again Bazza76d

Many thanks for the reply and for letting me know as well that it worked okay for you.

Feel free to come back here on AD and I'll try and help you out if and when you need help.

BTW, I burn all my movies to DL discs for a true 1:1 copy as they are Indian/Bollywood movies and can be up to 2 to 3 to 4 hours long and I've tried all the programs to make my backups work, and while they have and do work, I found that the quality of the backups wasn't up to scratch so I switched to the DL route.

If you ever need any help with media questions, please look up creaky and kivory666 who are 2 fellow Afterdawners' from whom I got a lot of valuable advice about media and backups so thanks are due to them as well.

What media do you use for your backups?

Hope this helps - have a good one.

Regards
