Backed up the full disc (R2) using DVDDecrypter in iso mode then DVDShrink in iso mode. This worked without any problems (both most current versions of programmes). However, like everyone else, I struggled initially using file mode.
I had also tried DVDfabdecrypter (latest version), which ripped it to the hadrdrive, but shrink still got stuck at 66%, as did nero recode. Having read that the new version of fab was supposed to deal with Madagascar, this seemed strange. Obviously I could have burnt to a dual layer disc.
Is it necessary to use vob blanker or similar even after using fab, or did I do something wrong? Or will I be able to use ios mode with decrypter for future rip-locked discs?
Last question... Does the new dvd43 remove the latest arcos, ie if that is in the background, will that and decrypter and shrink be effective.

Good questions there. I had to use VOB blanker to get Madagascar. The new versions of AnyDVD, and DVD FabDecrypter are supposed to get rid of the ripguard protection without needing VOB blanker. That is a good observation about the ISO rip mode also. Most of the time we rip in file mode, saving ISO mode for a straight copy DVD5 to DVD5 or DVD9 to DVD9.
I looked at the update info on DVD43, and it mentioned this revision is designed to better handle the arrcos protection. I guess the only way to find out is to use them on Madagascar, and see if it rips with no problems.
I normally turn DVD43 off when ripping with decrypter, as they can conflict, and decrypter comes up with error messages - not enough to abort the rip, but normally easier to let decrypter do all the work. May be worth a try together for newer discs however.
As regards iso mode for decrypter, there were a couple of dummy sections it inserted, but dealt with all that no problem. It also ripped the disc to the harddrive in file mode sucessfully which I was suprised about, as I assumed it would fail, reading all the other reports. It was just shrink that didn't like the file mode, (of fab or decrypter) only the iso mode.
i recently did Madagascar effortlessly DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.0 (free) then Shrunk with DVD Shrink as normal. what i did do was use my dvd-rom/cd-write combo drive (like io do for most of my ripping); didn't try to rip it on any of my dvd burners as i'd done the movie already but it's always nice to have a couple of optical drives..as if a movie won't play ball on one drive you always have a choice of drives to use..
