Joining clips in Intervideo DVD Creator

I use WinDVR3 to record from tv and then use Intervideo's DVD Creator to Edit, create DVD menus and burn the DVD. My problem is when using the split function to remove the ads it, by defalt, creates a new chapter which I would like to remove. Ie. I want the chapter breaks where I want them, and not where ads dictate. Ridiculously DVD creator can split the clip but not join them and you can end up with a chapter system that makes no sense. DVR records the footage in one large clip so I don't see any simple fix other than an Intervideo patch/update, but if anyone has any suggestions I would be most grateful.
