Everytime I try and access my CD-rw/DVD combi, i get an error message saying "D:not accessible" it has power going to it, I can insert CD's no problem, but I just can't read them, it doesn't even show the what the name of the disc is.

It may be coinsidental but 2 people i know also have exactly the same problem - Maybe just bad timing and they have all died within 2 weeks of each other.

Anyone else had the same problem at all.....or am I just putting off the fact that I need to buy another unit.

By the way no conflicts or warnings in the hardware manager.

Did the drive work before and just die(stop working) or did it never work? were there issues installing it?

This is an amazingly imformative site with many places to find information and help. Please support it.

I am currently using WIN XP pro, the actual model of CD-RW is Toshiba SDR1102 (DVD combi).

Yes the CD was working fine, I was going to try and flash it, but I think i'm living in hope.

It stopped working a few weeks ago just before I upgraded to Win XP pro because I had a few other little problems.

Any ideas ?

Right click my computer, properties, then go to the hardware tab folder. Click device manager and then click the + beside dvd\cd roms. Do you see your Toshiba SDR1102 listed?
Double click on Toshiba SDR1102 and see if the rom is working properly. If not, right click dvd\cd roms> then scan for hardware changes.
Does the "light" blink in the boot process or even come on? If you answer yes to all of these questions then do a firmware flash.
(with the exception of the light blinking). Also check to see if the ide cable has somehow came loose.

You can download the firmware here:
http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firmware.php?download_id=286

Use MTKWinFlashIDE mode BUT you MUST know what port your Toshiba is on. Example, my rig is set like this: Primary channel (hard drive= port 1), LiteON DVD-Rom=port 2). Secondary IDE channel: Polaroid BurnMax= port 3).

MTKWinFlashIDE mode: http://digi.rpc1.org/mwf-IDE.htm

Flash your drive right from your desktop rather than ms_dos.
