Hey Guys,

I have a Mad Dog 8x dvd burner. I looked on there website for recommended media and found something I don't understand, and was wondering if you guys could help me out?

For Verbatim it says max write speed 8x, but under media speed it says 4x. I don't understand what this means. Another example for fuji it says max write speed 8x, media speed 8x, I understand that but don't get the other.

Thanks for helping out a newbie.

celeron 2.8, 2x 80hd, 1 gig ram, mad dog ext 8x dvd+/-r
1 click DVD / AnyDVD, Dvd-Cloner 2, Dvd Shrink / Dvd43

ofield- okay here goes ! The max speed means that this is the maximum speed your burner will burn/record that media speed and the media speed means the actual speed that the media is rated for or certified meet it's specifications at ! keep in mind that with certain burners you can exceed the rated speed of the media This is called Overspeediing ! for example Burning 4x Media at 8x speed or 8X media at 12 or 16x !!! keep in mind that this does'nt work with all media or all burners and as long as your media burns well & you dvd's come out without deffects ! if it burns at it's rated speed it is successfull ! Also sometimes media will not reach it's rated burn speed in certain burners ! this does'nt neccessarily mean that the media is bad ! usually it means that it is just not real compatible with your burner so your burner burns at lower speed to have a better chance of compleating the burn successfully! yet the same media in another burner may burn at rated speed ! because it matches the burner better ! And as to what speed to burn at I've tried a few @ 12x , 1 DVD+R @ 16X , some @ 8x - but mostly I burn at 4x and seem to have no worries mate! as our australian friends would say ! But everyone has their own setup & preferrences so the choice is up to you ofield! hope I helped out a little bit & feel free to post any other ? you may have ! No I don't know everything either but there's an awful good chance someone here @ afterdawn.com will know the answer and will be happy to help you out!!!!! Good luck , Happy Holidays & happy Burning 1
