Where does this media rank?
I've been having issues, seems like occasionally the frames display pixels for a second or freeze-up, mostly in the last 10% of the film. If this happens I remove the media, clean the disk and pop it back in -- after that the presentation seems to work fine. Because of this I am suspecting the media...any why do problems only seem to occur in the last 10% of the presentation?
Looking forward to your comments and answers...

I will do -- thanks so much to all for the advice.
A question though, does the issue I describe in the first thread sound like a medai issue to you?

yes, very much so...hehe
the issues described are apparent with low quality grade media..whether it be pixellation/freezing/skipping/unexpected stopping/etc...one or a few of these problems can be associated w/ media quality~ :)
good luck on getting some "better media" :)

Majority of store brand name media is made by low quality manufacturers, with the exception of Office Depot. Office depot uses some pretty good manufacturers like:8x media made by Ritek and 16x media made by Ricohjpn. These are some decent discs and can be had for 20-25 cents each when they go on sale.
Avoid compusa/staples/officemax and other store brand name media. You can get higher quality media for not much more money.
withDVD: What machine is showing those issues? Your pc DVD-RW drive/dvd-rom drive/or a stand alone/game console drive?
Double check those backups using the same DVD-RW drive that burned them to see how the end of those backups look.
Since your issues are on the last 10%.If you have any left and you want to try to use them up:
Reduce the backup target from 4380 to 4300 mbs.If you use DVD Shrink, which majority of us use, simply:
Open up dvd shrink
Edit
Preferences
Click on dvd-5/scroll till custom/enter 4300 next to custom
Click ok and your new target is set.
The outer edge is susceptible to uneven dye and damage from handling the disc by the outer edge.By keeping that outer edge from being burned, you'll have slightly more compression, but those issues at the end of your backup should fixed. Also with low quality media, keep the burn speed at 4x or lower.
That's the problem with the low quality media, you can't burn the entire disc and you can't burn them fast. Some stand lones can really pick out the quality of media.

Hey there Saugmon,
I've notice problems in both the a DVD+R on the PC that managed the ?burn? and a regular DVD player like that of Sony (progressive scan).
Almost without fail, any time there has been a problem it occurs near the end of the backup. With this in mind, much of what you and kivory666 have mentioned makes perfect sense. I think I'll throw away the remaining disks; it's so disappointing when a problem on these CompUSA disks sporadically appears and ruins a backup job.
Thanks!
